A ‘Death Stranding' Anime Adaption Is on the Way

Summary Hideo Kojimahas confirmed thatDeath Strandingis receiving an anime adaptation, marking another expansion of the game's universe beyond interactive media. In a recent interview withVogue Japan, Kojima revealed that alongside thelive-action film adaptation with A24, his team is also working on an anime project. While details remain scarce, Kojima emphasized his desire to explore new storytelling formats, stating, 'I want to pursue the expressive potential of cinema' and create aDeath Strandingadaptation that stands apart from traditional game-to-screen translations. Kojima's approach to expanding the IP aligns with his broader vision of blurring the boundaries between games, film and animation. He noted that while some adaptations, likeThe Last of Us, remain faithful to their source material, others, such asThe Super Mario Bros. Movie, serve as fan-driven experiences. Kojima aims for something more ambitious, suggesting that both the anime and live-action film will offer unique interpretations of theDeath Strandinguniverse, potentially introducing new narratives or expanding existing lore. Although no studio or release window has been announced, Kojima's commitment to multi-platform storytelling suggests that the anime adaptation will be a visually striking and narratively complex project. WithDeath Stranding 2: On the Beachset to release next month, and the live-action film adaptation directed byMichael Sarnoskiin development, Kojima's vision forDeath Strandingas a multimedia franchise continues to evolve. A Death Stranding anime is in the works

How much Death Stranding are you willing to fire into your eyes? The game's sequel arrives in just a few weeks, A Quiet Place: Day One director Michael Sarnoski is leading up a live-action film adaptation, and now Hideo Kojima has confirmed that an anime is in production. Kojima teased the adaptation while discussing the more concrete live-action project in an interview with Vogue Japan . As picked up by VGC , the Metal Gear creator was talking about his cross-media ambitions for the Death Stranding , and comparing the planned film to other successful video game adaptations from recent years. "When it comes to adapting games into visual media, there are works like The Last of Us , which stays true to the original storyline, and films like The Super Mario Bros Movie which are more of a service to fans of the game," Kojima said, according to VGC 's translation. "While these works have their own merits, as a film enthusiast, I want to pursue the expressive potential of cinema. I aim to create a Death Stranding that can only be realised through film, one that could win awards at festivals like the Cannes Film Festival or the Venice Film Festival. In fact, we are also currently working on an anime adaptation." Kojima didn't offer any more information, so we don't know how far along the anime project is, who is making it, when we can actually expect it to come out, or whether it will tie in with the upcoming live-action movie. In the meantime, Norman Reedus' Sam Porter Bridges will return in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach , which is coming to PS5 on June 22. Kojima Productions dropped its second trailer for the game in March, which clocked in at 10 minutes and gave us a closer look at what we'll be getting up to in the sequel. (Spoiler alert: lots more walking.)

With Death Stranding 2: On the Beach right around the corner, we're ready to dive back into the post-apocalyptic world Kojima Productions first introduced in 2019. As we enter this next chapter, director Hideo Kojima finds himself reflecting on the unexpected parallel between the first game's continental rift and the real-world coronavirus pandemic that soon followed. In a conversation with Edge magazine, Kojima discussed how he had already written the sequel by the time the pandemic hit, only for the state of the world to horrifyingly reflect the story he had told in Death Stranding. When Kojima returned to the Kojima Productions' office after an undisclosed but severe illness, he found it empty. At the time, everyone was working remotely, and it struck a chord with him. "I felt that perhaps I would never meet anyone again," Kojima shared. "Something had been lost," he lamented, "Physically, we weren't connected anymore." Death Stranding launched only a handful of months before the world was suddenly isolated. In the game, we take on the role of Sam Porter Bridges, an on-the-nose name for his role as a porter tasked with rebuilding the communication bridges throughout the country with the use of the chiral network. A fictionalized take on our internet, the chiral network allowed communication to resume between a country that had been forced to isolate, the outside world far too dangerous and deadly for most. Kojima took no pride in finding he had inadvertently told the story of a future similar to what would come to pass, and found our own digital connections unsatisfactory. Zoom parties and hangouts were an empty substitution for the real thing: "We were having drinking parties and school events, but now entirely online, an almost entirely digital existence." At the time, this digital existence and his recovery reinvigorated Kojima's desire to make games "that don't already exist in the world." The success of Death Stranding has left many players excited for the next installment, and players will finally get to see just what Kojima and his team have cooked up in the hotly anticipated sequel on June 26. Death Stranding surpasses 20 million players amid spike of Steam users presumably trying to finish it before the sequel

George R.R. Martin denies the Elden Ring movie rumors in a way that makes everyone think it's definitely happening

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. After many months of rumors, speculation, and general confusion, the live-action Elden Ring movie has officially been confirmed by Bandai Namco and A24, who announced their collaboration in a press release. As it turns out, the details of the Elden Ring movie very closely mirror what was first reported by Nexus Point News earlier this month before the story was retracted. Alex Garland, who directed the 2024 dystopian action thriller Civil War and co-directed the 2025 war movie, Warfare, is writing and directing Elden Ring for A24. A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin, who helped create Elden Ring's world and lore, is signed on to produce. The project doesn't have a release date or window attached just yet. Elden Ring is a highly acclaimed and massively popular RPG first released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC in 2022. It sees players navigate a treacherous and vast open world to become the new Elden Lord. Rumors about a film adaptation have circulated for years, with Bandai Namco CEO Yasuo Miyakawa saying in 2021 that they planned to expand "Elden Ring not only as a game but also in a variety of other areas". In 2024, Martin soft-denied the rumors, fueling speculation further. A24, meanwhile, is also co-producing a movie adaptation of the action-adventure game Death Stranding alongside Kojima Productions.
