Minister offers all support to Ranjitha's kin
Kottayam: Ratheesh Nair, the brother of Ahmedabad air crash victim Ranjitha, left for Ahmedabad along with a relative on Friday evening to identify her body. The family had earlier received a call from the hospital authorities in Ahmedabad regarding arrangements being made for DNA tests to identify the bodies of the victims.
Ranjitha's mortal remains will be released to the relatives after the DNA tests, if needed. Ranjith Nair, Ranjitha's eldest brother, who is working in Oman, reached home on Friday.
Meanwhile, health minister Veena George assured all legal aid for Ranjitha's family. She visited Ranjitha's house and consoled her mother and children.
The minister told reporters that the incident was a painful one. "The family lost their lone support," she said, adding that the district administration would take all steps to bring home the mortal remains, at the earliest. Air India authorities have been contacted, Veena said. Arrangements have also been made for her brother's travel to Ahmedabad, she said. Konni MLA K U Janeesh Kumar accompanied the minister.
Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church head Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, Jacobite Syrian Church head Catholicos Aboon Mor Baselios Joseph I and BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar also visited the family. tnn
