Greggs major store change as self-serve fridges removed
The popular bakery chain has revealed it has removed items, including sandwiches and bottled drinks, from its self-serve fridge section at least five locations as part of a recent trial. Customer favourites have now been moved behind the counter in shops that are 'exposed' to higher levels of anti-social behaviour. One affected location is Whitechapel, East London, where customers must now ask Greggs staff at the till for sandwiches and bottled drinks. It's also been reported other stores have been fitted with 'bank-style screens' at the counter or introduced full-time security guards, according to The Sun. A Greggs spokesperson said: 'This is one of a number of initiatives we are trialling across a handful of shops which are exposed to higher levels of anti-social behaviour. 'Customers can expect to see our full range of great value and tasty Greggs favourites available from behind the counter. The safety of our colleagues and customers remains our number one priority.' Greggs' new summer 2025 menu revealed – full list Meanwhile, earlier this month, Greggs unveiled its summer 2025 menu, with prices starting from just £1.55. Discontinued UK Sweets/Chocolates The new additions include a Caramelised Biscuit Latte and a focaccia-style Chicken, Sweetcorn & Red Onion Pizza (available as a single slice, or in boxes of four or six to share with friends). Other Greggs summer menu items (including prices) are as follows: Korean Crispy Chicken Burger - from £4 Korean BBQ Chicken Wrap - from £3.80 Spicy Korean BBQ Chicken Baguette - from £3.60 Red Pepper, Feta & Spinach Bake - from £2.10 Lemon Meringue Muffin - from £1.55 Caramelised Biscuit Latte - Regular from £2.75 Iced Caramelised Biscuit Latte - from £3.10 Plenish Ginger Immunity Shot 60ml - from £1.55 Recommended reading: In March this year, Greggs revealed a jump in sales and profits in 2024 as it launched new shops, extended its opening hours and raised prices. The baked goods company, which has more than 2,600 shops across the UK, generated sales topping £2 billion – up 11.3% from 2023. This was partly driven by the opening of about 225 new shops during the year, a record amount for the group.
