Sainsbury's overhauls £3.75 meal deal with new 'build-your-own' products

Summer is here, and it's time to switch up your Sainsbury's meal deal. The supermarket has added 35 new products to its Food-to-Go range, including some fresh new items to its popular lunch time meal deal. One new highlight? A build-your-salad range. Hungry shoppers can pick a salad base – like the Bistro salad, Cheddar Garden, or Greek salad (£2.75 each) – then pack on a choice of five proteins. Shoppers can add on options including salt and chilli chicken thigh chunks (£1.50) or falafels (£1.30). Along with a drink, the build-your-salad option is the standard meal deal price of £3.75. Those looking for an elevated lunch experience can explore new mains in the £5 premium meal deal. This now includes the Taste the Difference Grazing Platter – packed with cheddar, olives and chorizo – and the Taste the Difference Sweet Mexican Salad – roasted sweet potatoes with a smoky chipotle dressing. Both can be enjoyed individually for £4.50 each, or alongside a drink and a snack as part of the £5 premium meal deal. Mains include Yuzu Fish Sushi Tacos, Spicy Chicken Rolls and Japanese Inspired Shophouse Noodles. But Sainsbury's isn't the only supermarket to offer customers the chance to build their own salad – Morrison's has had an in-store salad bar for years. Customers can pick a salad box size and pack in a wide range of veggies and proteins like chicken and tuna. One Reddit user even called its £3.50 medium salad box 'elite' and claimed 'you can cram a hell of a lot in'. Before you pick up your next meal deal, it's worth noting which supermarket actually offers customers the best value. More Trending A recent analysis by NetVoucherCodes looked at the potential savings when choosing the most expensive items included in meal deals at seven popular stores, including Boots, Poundland and Morrisons. It found Waitrose offers customers the best value for money. Although its meal deal costs £5, selecting premium items like the GLO Pulled Beef & Onion Salad, Taiko Mini Nigiri, and Jimmy's Iced Coffee can save you up to £5.30 compared to buying them separately. View More » Poundland, on the other hand, offers the cheapest meal deal at £3, but it provides the smallest savings on the pricier options.
