Des Moines Home and Garden Show kicks off final day
DES MOINES, Iowa — The final day of the Des Moines Home and Garden Show is underway at the Iowa Events Center.
This is the 47th year of the show which aims to inspire Iowans with new ideas for home projects.
One of the vendors this year is Korey Beemer with Beemer Landscaping. He started his company at the Des Moines Home and Garden Show in 2004 with water features. Over the last two decades, he was able to expand, including fire pits and pools.
Beemer said the show is a huge benefit to local vendors like him because it accounts for about 35% of his annual sales.
Another vendor is Designer Palms, a Kansas-based metal palm tree company that has also attended the show for the last two decades.
A representative for the company, Kyle Adams, said the trees can be functional art pieces, as many can be tables, lamps, or showers. According to Adams, the trees are low maintenance and can last around 25 years.
Iowa is the state with the most amount of metal palm trees provided by Designer Palms. Some Waukee residents may recognize the metal tree fixture located outside of The Palms Theaters and IMAX; however Adams said a majority of their customers are decorating their backyards.
The Des Moines Home and Garden Show will go from 10 a.m. through 6 p.m.
