Kossounou could follow Gasperini to Roma
Roma are reportedly interested in Odilon Kossounou of Bayer Leverkusen. The 24-year-old defender spent the past season on loan at Atalanta where he was given the chance to perform under Gian Piero Gasperini. Advertisement The rapport between the two is reportedly good and the player is being linked with a move to Roma. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Kossounou is expected to return to Bayer, although remains unlikely to stay. The Giallorossi have been monitoring his progress in Serie A and could advance a proposal for him, in order to reunite him with Gian Piero Gasperini. However, the newspaper reports that Bayer Leverkusen are asking for at least 25 million euros.

Odilon Kossounou likely to depart Bayer Leverkusen as club eye Malick Thiaw
Odilon Kossounou impressed for Atalanta last season on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, and now the Bergamo club want to sign the Ivorian defender on a permanent basis. But with Gian Piero Gasperini's impending move to AS Roma, BILD cite Gazzetta dello Sport's report that the Italian wants to take Kossonou to the capital club with him. With the departure of Jonathan Tah to Bayern Munich, that would leave Bayer Leverkusen short in defence. Kicker and BILD report that Malick Thiaw remains a topic at Leverkusen. The former Bundesliga champions showed interest in signing the German last summer but were priced out of a move (Ed. note: A valuation of €35m), and now Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Italian side are open to offers. Advertisement After being an indispensable player for Milan in the early stages of last season, Thiaw found himself on the bench for seven of Milan's final nine Serie A games of the season. A departure from the Lombardy club is conceivable and Thiaw would be open to returning to Germany. GGFN | Daniel Pinder

Kossounou talks get tense between Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen
Atalanta are locked in negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen for Odilon Kossounou, demanding a discount on the €25m fee because he was injured for so much of his loan spell. The defender made the move to Bergamo last summer for €5.2m with an option to buy for a further €25m. Advertisement Now that the campaign is over, Atalanta are eager to make the move permanent, but are pushing for a discount on that figure. This is because he managed only 22 competitive appearances for the club, having sustained a very serious injury in January. Injury meant Atalanta without Kossounou for 3 months Odilon Kossounou of Atalanta controls the ball during the UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD5 match between BSC Young Boys and Atalanta BC at Stadion Wankdorf on November 26, 2024 in Bern, Switzerland. It was so bad that it required surgery performed by specialist Doctor Ramon Cugat in Barcelona. According to Sky Sports Deutschland transfer expert Florian Plettenberg, Bayer Leverkusen are refusing to budge from their initial agreement. The 24-year-old Ivory Coast international is not part of Bayer Leverkusen's plans for next season.

Ederson's goal earns Atalanta 1-0 win away to Milan

(EPA Images pipc) MILAN : Atalanta came away from the San Siro with a 1-0 win over AC Milan on Sunday thanks to Ederson's second half goal, which consolidated their place in Serie A's top four and all but ends the hosts slim chances of earning a Champions League spot. After a goalless first half, Atalanta took the lead in the 62nd minute through Ederson's diving header and Milan offered little after the goal with the visitors looking more likely to find a second. The final whistle was greeted by loud cheers from the away fans who had travelled in numbers from nearby Bergamo, and jeers from the home crowd who again spent much of the game protesting against the Milan hierarchy. The win moved third-placed Atalanta to 64 points, four points ahead of Bologna who beat leaders Inter Milan 1-0 earlier on Sunday, while Milan remain ninth in the standings on 51 points.
