Club REIGNITE interest in Liverpool forward
Sheffield United want Koumas The 19-year-old spent the campaign at Stoke City, playing under three different managers during a difficult spell for the club. The Welshman managed 49 appearances for the Potters in all - scoring six goals and adding three assists. Advertisement But the forward's future is very much up for discussion with a new report in the Daily Mail now suggesting that Sheffield United have moved into the frame for his signature. In an item concerning the Blades' interest in Owen Beck, it's been revealed that Koumas is also wanted. Koumas previously of interest to Sheffield United United finished third in the Championship last season, missing out on promotion after losing in the playoff final to Sunderland. The club have just announced Ruben Selles as their new manager, replacing Chris Wilder. Koumas was previously linked with Sheffield United in Wilder's days - with the manager's long-term assistant Alan Knill possessing insider knowledge on both Koumas and fellow Welshman Beck. He was on the staff of Rob Page in the Wales national team - and having worked with both players he recommended them to Wilder. Page, of course, is now Liverpool's under-21 manager, having made a surprise decision to join earlier this week.

Liverpool may come up against two current players next season as transfer plan hatched
Two current Liverpool academy players could find themselves coming up against the Reds next season if Championship outfit Sheffield United follows up its apparent interest in Owen Beck and Lewis Koumas. The Mail reports that the Blades are interested in left-back Beck and attacker Koumas, and have put the pair on their list of targets should the club secure promotion back to the Premier League. Chris Wilder's men currently sit second in the Championship, three points ahead of third-placed Burnley and five points adrift of table toppers Leeds United. Beck and Koumas are currently on loan with Championship clubs, with the former at Blackburn Rovers and the latter at Stoke City. It is claimed that Wilder's long-term right-hand man Alan Knill, who is also a coach for Wales, knows Beck and Koumas well from the international scene, with the pair having been included in Wales squads over the last couple of years. Beck is a regular for promotion-chasing Blackburn, while Koumas has registered six goals and three assists for struggling Stoke. It was reported by Rousing the Kop last month that Liverpool was delighted with the progress that Beck was making at Blackburn and was keeping an open mind about the prospect of Beck becoming a part of Arne Slot's first-team squad next season. Beck has impressed during his last two loan spells senior soccer, having also stood out while on loan at Dundee last season. The youngster was named in the PFA Scottish Premiership Team of the Year as a result of his impressive performances for the Dens Park club in 2023-24. Beck's first two loan spells in senior soccer, with Portuguese club Famalicao and Blackburn's Lancashire rival Bolton Wanderers, did not exactly go to plan, with Beck not making a single appearance for the former and playing just nine times for the latter. Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said of Beck in January 2024: 'We were always pretty positive about Owen, but then he had two really difficult loan spells [at Famalicao and Bolton]. It was a surprise that it didn't work out because of what we thought about Owen, but that's how it is with young boys. When you send them away from home, plenty of things can happen. 'Things always have to fit well – it must be the right manager, must be the right team, if they have another left-back there who is experienced. There are so many things which can make a loan spell not really happen. But at Dundee everything was fine and he made big steps."

Cardiff beat Stoke on penalties to edge epic cup tie
Cardiff City overcame fellow Championship strugglers Stoke City on penalties in an exhilarating FA Cup tie to reach the fifth round. Cardiff made a flying start with two goals in the opening 19 minutes as Rubin Colwill fired them ahead before Yousef Salech exploited hesitant Stoke defending to poke in. Lewis Koumas struck with a firm low finish shortly before half-time to pull a goal back for the hosts, and the Wales forward scored again a minute after the restart to equalise. Stoke then led through Lewis Baker's penalty, conceded by Bluebirds substitute Jasper Daland who managed to injure himself in fouling Emre Tezgel. But the Welsh side were not done. Colwill scored his second with a low strike from the edge of the penalty area which seemed to take a touch on its way in. After both sides missed chances in extra time, Cardiff goalkeeper Ethan Horvath made what proved to be the decisive save in the penalty shootout from Michael Rose and Colwill converted his spot-kick to send Omer Riza's team through. Cardiff can now look forward to a first fifth-round FA Cup tie in 11 years – with the draw to come on Monday – while Stoke will focus solely on avoiding relegation to League One. With just one point separating the teams in the battle for Championship survival, 18th-place Stoke and Cardiff in 19th made 16 changes between them for this cup tie. Despite Koumas having an early headed goal disallowed for offside, Cardiff controlled the early exchanges after handing first starts to new signings Salech and Sivert Mannsverk and welcoming captain Aaron Ramsey back from injury for his first club appearance since August. Colwill put the visitors in front in the eighth minute as he evaded a couple of Stoke defenders before finding the bottom corner with a left-footed strike. Salech headed wide soon afterwards but swiftly made amends, latching on to Joel Bagan's hopeful long ball and getting between Stoke centre-back Ben Gibson and goalkeeper Jack Bonham to lift the ball into the net. The home side finished the first half strongly with Koumas latching on to Wouter Burger's excellent through ball to finish confidently. Burger also had a hand in the Wales international's second goal as his clever dummy from a throw-in allowed Koumas to cut inside on to his right foot and score from close range. If Cardiff's defending was a little passive there, it was shambolic for Stoke's penalty. Daland failed to control a simple pass and, as the ball looped up, he was beaten to it by Tezgel, who he kicked to the ground in an attempt to clear. Baker converted his penalty and the Bet365 Stadium, quiet for much of the game, erupted. Just as Cardiff looked to be floored, they hauled themselves off the canvass as Colwill guided a right-footed effort into the bottom corner with the help of a deflection. Joe Ralls and Will Fish had chances to put the visitors back in front but were denied by Bonham, while both sides missed chances in extra time. In the shootout, Salech and Tatsuki Seko hit the woodwork for each side before Horvath's save from Rose allowed Colwill to secure victory by powering his penalty down the middle.
