Krewe of Gemini's Dreamcatcher parade brings magic to Shreveport
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – After a sold out bal for the first time in 36 years, the Krewe of Gemini finished their Mardi Gras extravaganza with their highly anticipated parade. This year, the krewe embraced the theme of a dreamcatcher, celebrating the magic of childhood dreams with floats that brought to life superheroes, astronauts, courageous aviators, and daring pirates. The pirate float, led by float lieutenant Russ Friedrich, was 60 feet long and held 40 riders. It was built in four to six months. 'This is our 36th year doing Mardi Gras. We are actually the group that brought Mardi Gras to the Ark-La-Tex; it's grown so much over the years,' said Friedrich. Friedrich says the Krewe of Gemini is the founders, and he is one of eight members who left the Krewe 36 years ago. 'I feel proud to be a part of the community and being able to give back so much to the community of Shreveport-Bossier,' said Friedrich. With Louisiana's rich culture, it is no surprise that the Krewe knows best in letting the good times roll. Mardi Gras rolls on with Krewe of Gemini and Highland celebrations A group of Longview, Texas residents dressed up in their finest purple, gold, and green, and crossed the border to celebrate Mardi Gras. Kim Miller, one of the residents from Longview, says this experience is marvelous and you couldn't ask for a better, fun time. 'This is Louisiana. Louisiana, they have the right to celebrate, and they have that heritage and everything, so, I wish Texas had something similar like this because this is a blast,' said Miller. The group said they love dressing up and the festive season is the perfect time for it. Despite thousands of people from downtown Shreveport down Clyde Fant Parkway, there were plenty of throws for everyone. Friedrich said, 'The weather is fantastic this year. We had crummy weather last year, so we have a lot of throws left over from last year, so we're going to be throwing lots of throws tonight.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Mardi Gras rolls on with Krewe of Gemini and Highland celebrations
SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER, LA. (KTAL/KMSS) – Mardi Gras festivities continue on both sides of the Red River. The Krewe of Gemini kicked off with float loading party in Bossier City. This event enables the public to come out and get an up-close look at the floats before they roll in the big parade. Shreveport police invite locals to share Mardi Gras stories with officers Gemini's theme this year is Dreamcatcher, and Krewe members told us this means that all the floats will represent something you probably wanted to be as a child, such as a superhero, policeman, or astronaut. Over in Shreveport the Krewe of Highland held their grand ball in a unique venue, the Red River District. The open-air event had multiple bars, a live band, street performers and DJ Hotboy Yoshi was on hand to keep the party going. NBC 6 and FOX 33 were sponsors of the event and Jacque and Dan Jovic were on hand to emcee the event. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Nice Mardi Gras weekend & STORMS on Tuesday!
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – We have had some weather across the ArkLaTex so far this week. It will continue through Mardi Gras weekend. Strong to possibly severe storms are now looking possible on Tuesday. Krewe of Gemini? The Mardi Gras festivities begin on Saturday with the Krewe of Gemini parade. I'd expect to see plenty of sunshine with afternoon temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. We could see temperatures ease into the lower 70s after sunset. Krewe of Highland? The weather will also cooperate for this Sunday's Krewe of Highland parade, although it will be a little bit cooler. Expect a partly cloudy sky next Sunday afternoon with temperatures in the low 70s. A disturbance could bring some rain on Sunday night but it is looking doubtful that it will arrive soon enough to impact the parade. Tuesday Storms: It now appears that we could see some strong to severe storms on Tuesday as a rather strong disturbance moves through the middle of the country. As of right now, it appears that we could see a marginal to slight severe weather risk. SPC does have a risk area out for all of the ArkLaTex on Tuesday. The storms will likely leave behind a decent amount of rain as most of the area will receive around one inch. 10-Day Forecast: Your 10-day forecast shows the dry and pleasant weather will continue through the weekend. Daytime highs will likely remain in the 70s and could flirt with 80 on Saturday. Highs will ease into the 60s during the last half of next week. Overnight lows will likely remain above normal in the 40s and 50s. We will see a slight chance of rain on Sunday night into Monday. Thunderstorms are looking promising on Tuesday with severe weather possible. The rest of next week is looking dry and mild with plenty of 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
