Mayor Arceneaux: Traffic cameras are not a money grab
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—The City of Shreveport has approved a contract to install speed cameras throughout Caddo Parish. Mayor Tom Arceneaux says this measure is purely constituent driven and twelve sites are under consideration. He says these are areas with some of the worst speeding zones in the city, according to studies by 'Blue Line Solutions.' They say that in some of these locations, as many as 50,000 people are driving 11 mph over the speed limit. 'What we expect is that once the cameras are there, there will be a very high degree of compliance with the speed limit, and therefore, we will issue fewer tickets over time. So, we don't anticipate that a lot of money or revenue coming in. I've been accused of making a money grab. This is not a money grab, we do not expect a lot, long term, we do not expect a lot of revenue because we expect that there will be compliance, which is what we have found in the school zones,' explains Mayor Arceneaux. Pothole problems, Mardi Gras rules, La. utility fraud legislation – One on One with Mayor Arceneaux He says the city has mostly received complaints about the school zone camera, citing tickets during non-school hours. However, they have not received many complaints about inaccurate cameras. During his visit to our studio, Mayor Arceneaux also discussed success during the city's Mardi Gras season, and he says he expects this coming weekend to be successful for the Krewe of Highland and Gemini parades as well. He also touched on the latest developments on the issue of squatters. On March 11th, Arceneaux and the city attorney will introduce legislation during a Property Standards Committee meeting to amend the property standards code to give police the authority to move in and remove squatters occupying abandoned buildings. The legislation will be up for passage on March 25th. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Nice Mardi Gras weekend & STORMS on Tuesday!
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – We have had some weather across the ArkLaTex so far this week. It will continue through Mardi Gras weekend. Strong to possibly severe storms are now looking possible on Tuesday. Krewe of Gemini? The Mardi Gras festivities begin on Saturday with the Krewe of Gemini parade. I'd expect to see plenty of sunshine with afternoon temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. We could see temperatures ease into the lower 70s after sunset. Krewe of Highland? The weather will also cooperate for this Sunday's Krewe of Highland parade, although it will be a little bit cooler. Expect a partly cloudy sky next Sunday afternoon with temperatures in the low 70s. A disturbance could bring some rain on Sunday night but it is looking doubtful that it will arrive soon enough to impact the parade. Tuesday Storms: It now appears that we could see some strong to severe storms on Tuesday as a rather strong disturbance moves through the middle of the country. As of right now, it appears that we could see a marginal to slight severe weather risk. SPC does have a risk area out for all of the ArkLaTex on Tuesday. The storms will likely leave behind a decent amount of rain as most of the area will receive around one inch. 10-Day Forecast: Your 10-day forecast shows the dry and pleasant weather will continue through the weekend. Daytime highs will likely remain in the 70s and could flirt with 80 on Saturday. Highs will ease into the 60s during the last half of next week. Overnight lows will likely remain above normal in the 40s and 50s. We will see a slight chance of rain on Sunday night into Monday. Thunderstorms are looking promising on Tuesday with severe weather possible. The rest of next week is looking dry and mild with plenty of 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
