Vat Savitri Amavasya Vrat Vat Savitri Vrat coincides with Jyeshtha Amavasya (new moon day). Married women observe a fast on this day for the long life and happy life of their husband and worship under the Vat (banyan) tree. This year this fast is coming on Monday, 26th May. In that case, if you are keen on keeping this strictly fast, then for sure take the advice of an experienced priest or some elderly person.
Vat Savitri Amavasya Muhurat Begin – from 12:11 PM, 26th MayEnd – till 08:31 AM, 27th MayVat Savitri Vrat Puja Vidhi: The woman keeping the fast should get up early in the morning during Brahma Muhurat, take a bath, and dress in clean, red or yellow attire.
Clean the site under the Vat (banyan) tree where the puja has to be performed and place the worship seat.
Place the idol or picture of Savitri and Satyavan on the altar.
Pour water at the base of the Vat tree, then sandalwood, turmeric, roli, rice grains (akshat), and flowers.
Go around seven times putting red cotton thread on the Vat tree and while going round every time, pray for the longevity of the husband.
With complete dedication, read or listen to vrat story. (This is the crux of this fast.)
Following worship, do aarti of Vat tree and Savitri-Satyavan and do folded-hand prarthana.
Following worship, offer fruits, clothes, sweets, or money to Brahmins or needy people. This completes the fast.
