Palm Beach Police: Man followed women, then attacked officer at Midtown Beach
A West Palm Beach man was arrested after Palm Beach Police said he followed three women along Midtown Beach and then attacked an officer who approached him.
Palm Beach Police officers went to the intersection of Worth Avenue and South Ocean Boulevard about 1:45 a.m. June 22 after a woman called and said a man was following her two friends and her, according to an arrest report.
The officers found the women, who pointed to the man who was following them along the beach, the arrest report said.
The man, 22, seemed "confused and in a state of mania" and would not follow officers' directions, police said.
With the man acting erratically, an officer warned him that he would use his stun gun if the man did not sit down, the arrest report said.
The man became angry and said, "Why don't you just use the real thing?" before lunging at the officer, the arrest report said.
The man fought as the officers tried to restrain him, clawing at one of the officer's eyes and scratching the officer's face, the arrest report said.
The man faces charges of assault and battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence, court records show. He remained at the Palm Beach County Jail on June 23 on an $11,000 bond, according to jail records.
