14 hardcore Naxals surrender in Sukma

Raipur: A total of 14 hardcore Maoists — including five women — surrendered before senior officials in Sukma district on Monday. The surrendered cadres were carrying a total bounty of Rs 16 lakh, with several individuals having rewards of Rs 2 lakh each announced by the Chhattisgarh govt. The surrender took place under the state's new Naxalite Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy and the local "Niyad Nellanar" campaign led by Sukma Police. The former cadres said that they were prompted to surrender due to increasing police presence through new security camps in remote and sensitive interior regions, as well as disillusionment with the inhumane ideology, internal exploitation, and discriminatory practices within the ranks — particularly by outsiders against local tribal members. Police said that among the key surrendering cadres were Kuhram Bhima, 37, a member of the Katekalyan Area Committee with a Rs 2 lakh bounty. Telam Hidma, 35, RPC DKMS President from Nagaram, also with a Rs 2 lakh bounty, Madvi Pojje, Podiyam Ayte, and Madvi Mangdi — all women members of Platoon 26 or key KMS leaders, each with Rs 2 lakh rewards while Others include militia and RPC members from Sukma, Bijapur, and Konta regions. The surrender took place in the presence of Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan, senior officers from CRPF. Each surrendered Naxalite was granted a cash incentive of Rs 50,000 and clothing under the newly revised policy 2025."
