FIR on Vasai's 470cr STP contractor for 4k power theft
Vasai: An FIR has been lodged against a firm that won a Rs 470-crore contract to set up an STP in Vasai East for alleged power theft of Rs 3,670. Activists have sought immediate cancellation of the contract as penalty and blacklisting of the firm, Eagle Infra India.
An activist had flagged the theft last month after finding out that power for digging a sewer line was being drawn from a mini feeder without permission. MSEB officials were alerted, who sent a letter to Achole police seeking a probe. A case was filed against Eagle Infra. Later, MSEB officials sent a bill for Rs 3,670 to Eagle Infra, which the company paid.
"Once a contractor is found to be involved in a crime, the tender should be cancelled and the firm blacklisted," said Kuldeep Vartak, a Congress leader. "The FIR was filed over a week ago, but the civic body has not taken any action." Civic chief Anil Kumar Pawar said he will look into the issue.
In March, a labourer of the firm was buried under loose soil. —Vishal Rajemahadik
