Suspected communist terrorist group secretary nabbed in CDO
Authorities have arrested a suspected official of a communist terrorist group in Cagayan de Oro.
In a statement on Sunday, the Philippine National Police - Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) said an individual with the alias 'Kumander' was nabbed during a manhunt operation in Barangay Indahag.
Supposedly the secretary of the group, Kumander was arrested for violating the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 and is facing two separate murder charges, multiple attempted homicide, and child abuse.
The arrest warrants were issued by Regional Trial Courts in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte; Isulan, Sultan Kudarat; Tagum City, Davao del Norte; and Surallah, South Cotabato in 2022 and 2024.
The 50-year-old suspect was identified as the number 5 regional most wanted person of Police Region Office 12 for violating the Anti-Terrorism Act.
He is also the number 5 regional most wanted person of Police Region Office 11 for murder.
During the operation, authorities confiscated one fragmentation grenade, one Colt caliber 45 pistol, one steel magazine, rounds of ammunition, two blasting caps, one detonating cord, and three identification cards.
Government forces also arrested an alleged high-ranking leader of the New People's Army in Barangay Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City.
According to reports, the suspect allegedly served as secretary general of the NPA's Far South Mindanao Region (FSMR), which operates under the jurisdiction of the 6th Infantry Division (6ID). — Mariel Celine Serquiña/BM, GMA Integrated News
