Local students compete at National Spelling Bee Championships
MISSOURI – Seven bright students from Missouri are set to showcase their linguistic skills at the upcoming Scripps National Spelling Bee championships. The students represent seven different cities in the Show-Me State. Ranging in age from 11 to 14, these young minds are ready to take on the nation's toughest words. This year marks a monumental occasion for the Bee – its 100th anniversary. From a modest beginning with just nine spellers in 1925, the competition has grown into a national phenomenon, inspiring millions of students across the country. Two familiar faces are returning to the national stage for their second consecutive appearance: Kunal Patel, who attends Branson Junior High, tied for 46th place in 2024. Scott Tingle from Hornersville, who tied for 192nd place in 2024. A total of 243 spelling champions from across the U.S. and beyond will gather in National Harbor, Maryland, for this ultimate test of vocabulary and spelling. Competitors from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Department of Defense Schools, and even five other countries (the Bahamas, Canada, Ghana, Kuwait, and Nigeria) will vie for the coveted Scripps Cup. The competition will feature both spelling and vocabulary rounds, strategically narrowing the field through the Preliminaries, Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Finals. Branson Junior High student wins return trip to Scripps National Spelling Bee
For the second year in a row, Kunal Patel has won a trip the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The Branson Junior High seventh grader competed last year, at the 96th annual competition, and tied for 46th place. Patel recently won a return trip after winning the 2025 Association for Children's Education Sponsorship or the A.C.E.S. Regional Missouri Spelling Bee. The regional contest was March 1 in Rolla. He won by correctly spelling the word "peony." The 97th national spelling bee is May 27-29 in Washington D.C. 'It's been a lot of hard work, but I love the challenge and I am grateful for the support of my parents, friends and teachers.' The others were Jada Kelley, third place; Bodhi Gerken, fourth place; Kaival Patel, ninth place; and Griffin Taylor, Emmalyn Franks and Marissa Livingston. LIBERTY LATIN AMERICA'S C&W CREDIT SILO PRICES NEW $1.5 BILLION TERM LOAN DUE 2032
Refinancing transaction significantly extends silo's weighted average life of debt DENVER, Colorado, February 04, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Liberty Latin America's ("LLA" or the "Company") largest credit silo, Cable & Wireless ("C&W"), priced a new $1.5 billion term loan at the end of January 2025. This term loan matures in 2032, bears interest at a rate of SOFR + 3.25%, and the net proceeds will be used to repay a $1.5 billion term loan maturing in 2028. This transaction is expected to close on February 18, 2025.
