Kuwait opens submissions for 2025 Media Award 'Sheraa'
KUWAIT CITY, May 17: The Higher Committee of the Kuwait Media Award (Sheraa) announced that media professionals can begin submitting their works for consideration starting Sunday, with the submission period running until July 18. Submissions can be made through the dedicated page on the Ministry of Information's official website. In a statement issued on Saturday, Saad Al-Ali, Chairman of the Higher Committee of the Award, emphasized that the initiative is part of the Ministry of Information's efforts to support and develop Kuwait's media landscape. Al-Ali expressed the committee's commitment to recognizing outstanding media works across various categories, including digital media. He encouraged creative and accomplished Kuwaiti media professionals to participate in the 'Sheraa' awards, noting that the competition is a reflection of Kuwait's deep appreciation for the significant influence media has in shaping perspectives, fostering dialogue, and contributing to development. This year's launch of the award coincides with Kuwait's designation as the Arab Capital of Culture and Media for 2025, adding a distinctive regional significance to the event. Al-Ali also expressed his gratitude to the Minister of Information and Culture, Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, for his support in spotlighting the work of distinguished Kuwaiti media figures through this prestigious award, which was first announced in January. The award will be granted across 16 media categories, including individual awards for Best Interviewer, Best Content Creator, Best Investigative Report, Best Columnist, Best Critical Article, Best Photograph, and Best Caricature. Group awards will recognize the Best Dialogue Work, Best Documentary Film, Best Individual Dialogue Work, Best Interactive Program, Best Photography Work, Best Work Using Artificial Intelligence, and the Best Integrated Media Campaign. Additionally, the committee will nominate a recipient for the "Media Appreciation Award," recognizing a media figure for their outstanding and lasting contributions to the field. Another special honor, the "Supreme Committee Award," will be given to a work selected by the committee, which addresses a topic of national importance, presented through innovative media frameworks that have a positive societal impact. Submissions will be evaluated by specialized arbitration committees for each category, with winners to be announced during a ceremony in December 2025. A key condition for eligibility is that the submitted works must have been published between May 18, 2024, and the final day of the submission period.
