Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah signs extension
May 30 - The Minnesota Vikings announced a multiyear contract extension for general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah on Friday. The Vikings are 34-17 with two postseason appearances since Adofo-Mensah and head coach Kevin O'Connell arrived ahead of the 2022 season. "Kwesi's leadership, vision and collaboration with our coaching staff has positioned the Minnesota Vikings for sustained success," Vikings co-owner and president Mark Wilf said. "His dedication and forward-thinking approach have been instrumental in shaping our roster and future, and we are confident that under the guidance of him and Kevin O'Connell, we will continue to compete at the highest level as we pursue a championship for Vikings fans." Minnesota went 14-3 in 2024, its best finish since a 15-1 campaign in 1998. "This organization means so much to me, and I've always believed in what we're building here. From the ownership to the incredible staff, there's a true commitment to creating a winning culture with the goal of competing year in and year out," Adofo-Mensah said. "I'm thankful for the trust the Wilf family has placed in me, and I'm thrilled to continue leading our football operation alongside Coach O'Connell. Minnesota has welcomed my family with open arms, and we embrace the sacrifices that come with chasing the ultimate prize, knowing what it will mean to the best fan base and this great state. "While we've made significant strides already, our focus will remain on building a team positioned as a perennial contender," he added. "This extension signifies we are on solid ground with the long-term vision we have set, and I'm incredibly excited to work with this group of talented people as we continue to push the boundaries of what this franchise can achieve." Minnesota's .667 winning percentage over the past three seasons ranks third in the NFC behind the Philadelphia Eagles (.784) and Detroit Lions (.706). Adofo-Mensah, 43, worked in the front offices of the San Francisco 49ers (2013-19) and Cleveland Browns (2020-21) before joining the Vikings. --Field Level Media

How many games will the Vikings win this season? How many games will the Vikings win this season? How many games will the Vikings win this season? The Minnesota Vikings on Friday announced the signing of general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah to a multi-year contract extension. Adofo-Mensah was hired in January 2022 and was entering the final year of his four-year contract. Details of the contract extension are not yet known. Minnesota has welcomed my family with open arms, and we embrace the sacrifices that come with chasing the ultimate prize, knowing what it will mean to the best fan base and this great state." Under Adofo-Mensah's leadership, the Vikings have gone 34-17 in three regular seasons. The team has also seen a significant change, as longtime veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins departed following the 2023 NFL season. Last season, the team achieved the second-most wins in a season in franchise history (14-3) after signing free agent QB Sam Darnold. "Kwesi's leadership, vision and collaboration with our coaching staff has positioned the Minnesota Vikings for sustained success," Vikings owner and president Mark Wilf said. "His dedication and forward-thinking approach have been instrumental in shaping our roster and future, and we are confident that under the guidance of him and Kevin O'Connell, we will continue to compete at the highest level as we pursue a championship for Vikings fans." In the 2024 NFL draft, the Vikings selected the presumed QB of the future in J.J. McCarthy with the No. 10 overall pick. After missing last season to a knee injury, he's expected to lead the team this season. Thirteen Vikings players have been selected to Pro Bowls under Adofo-Mensah, including Darnold, outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard and cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. in 2024. Head coach Kevin O'Connell was also named 2024 NFL Coach of the Year.

Vikings sign GM Adofo-Mensah to extension, keeping his contract in sync with O'Connell's
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings signed general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah to a multi-year contract extension on Friday, keeping his status in sync with head coach Kevin O'Connell's for the long term. O'Connell's extension was done in January, following a 14-win season. Both Adofo-Mensah and O'Connell were hired in 2022 on four-year deals. The length of their new contracts was not released by the Vikings, who are 34-17 in the regular season since they arrived. They're 0-2 in the playoffs. 'Kwesi's leadership, vision and collaboration with our coaching staff has positioned the Minnesota Vikings for sustained success,' owner and president Mark Wilf said in a statement distributed by the team. 'His dedication and forward-thinking approach have been instrumental in shaping our roster and future, and we are confident that under the guidance of him and Kevin O'Connell, we will continue to compete at the highest level as we pursue a championship for Vikings fans.' The 43-year-old Adofo-Mensah, who has economics degrees from Princeton and Stanford and started his first career on Wall Street as a commodities trader and portfolio manager, entered the NFL in 2013 with the San Francisco 49ers as a research and development specialist. He was hired in 2020 as a vice president of football operations for the Cleveland Browns, before taking the job with the Vikings. ___ AP NFL:

Vikings, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah agree to multiyear extension
The Minnesota Vikings announced Friday that they have agreed to a multi-year contract extension with general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. The deal comes four months after the Vikings agreed to terms on a new contract with head coach Kevin O'Connell. Neither the team nor Adofo-Mensah's representatives disclosed the terms of the new contract. The Vikings and GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah have agreed to a multi-year extension, per sources. — Dianna Russini (@DMRussini) May 30, 2025 Adofo-Mensah was hired in the spring of 2022 before O'Connell. The Vikings have made the playoffs in two of the three seasons since, but have not won a playoff game. Adofo-Mensah became a general manager after a two-year stint with the Cleveland Browns under GM Andrew Berry. In Cleveland, Adofo-Mensah served as a sounding board for Berry, viewing decisions from a long-term and numerical lens. Advertisement His route to the NFL was not a typical one. Adofo-Mensah earned a bachelor's degree from Princeton University in economics, then traded commodities on Wall Street. He envisioned a career as an economics professor when he was accepted into a master's program at Stanford, but a chance encounter at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference placed him on the football path. The San Francisco 49ers first hired him as a manager of football research development in 2013. He studied draft pick value and age curves for players and produced scouting reports. He was elevated to a director role in 2017 before Berry poached him in 2020. Adofo-Mensah's track record is fascinating to assess through these three seasons. The Vikings were above the salary cap when he took the job. Three years later, Minnesota has nearly $60 million to spend. That's unquestionably a positive. His free-agent moves have also excelled for the most part. Edge rusher Za'Darius Smith recorded 10 sacks in 2022. Cornerback Byron Murphy Jr., signed in 2023, recorded a career-high six interceptions this season. And last spring, the Vikings signed defenders Jonathan Greenard, Andrew Van Ginkel and Blake Cashman, all of whom produced well above their value. Adofo-Mensah also was one of the pivotal voices in the Vikings moving on from quarterback Kirk Cousins, altering the team-building plan. GO DEEPER Vikings' 10-step offseason plan: Roster cuts, free-agent signings and a draft strategy The draft has been a problem, however. Before this April's draft, the Vikings had picked 23 players during Adofo-Mensah's tenure. Only three of those players are starters for Minnesota: Jordan Addison, Jalen Nailor and Will Reichard. Fourteen of those 23 remain on the roster, and that number could dwindle with additional cuts in the coming months. Exacerbating the situation are two trades. In 2022, Adofo-Mensah traded out of the No. 12 spot in the first round, moving down to No. 32 in exchange for extra picks. His first four players taken — Lewis Cine, Andrew Booth Jr., Ed Ingram and Brian Asamoah — don't have meaningful roles. Advertisement In 2024, Adofo-Mensah essentially parted with one first-round pick, two second-rounders, a third-rounder, two fourth-rounders, two fifth-rounders and a sixth-rounder for quarterback J.J. McCarthy, edge rusher Dallas Turner and two seventh-rounders. McCarthy tore his meniscus, and Turner played just 300 defensive snaps. McCarthy's rookie contract should help Minnesota paper over some of the holes with salary-cap space. However, sustainability requires an influx of youth, and that task falls on Adofo-Mensah's desk.
