Louisiana legislator charged with DWI, child endangerment after vehicle crash
Louisiana state Rep. Kyle Green was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and child endangerment after crashing his car with his three children as passengers early Wednesday morning, State Police said. Neither Green nor the children were injured in the single-vehicle crash. The children were released to a family member. USA Today is seeking comment from Green. In a text to USA Today, House Speaker Phillip DeVillier said, "It's an unfortunate situation. He and his family are in my prayers, and we will do everything we can to support his family." Green, a Democrat from Marrero, ran off the road while traveling westbound on U.S. 90 in Jefferson Parish and crashed into a concrete barrier. State Police said when officers arrived on the scene about 2:30 a.m., they noticed signs of impairment. They placed Green under arrest after conducting field sobriety tests. Green refused to provide a breath sample after being transported to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center, but police secured a search warrant from a judge to obtain blood samples at the jail. Green was charged with first offense DWI, three counts of DWI with child endangerment, careless operation and improper lane use. Louisiana lawmaker arrested on DWI and child endangerment charges after single-car crash
A Louisiana lawmaker is facing criminal charges after striking a concrete barrier while allegedly driving impaired with his three children in the vehicle, state police said on Wednesday. Rep. Kyle M. Green Jr., a Democrat who represents a portion of south Louisiana's Jefferson Parish, has been charged with a first-offense of driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor punishable by fines, jail time or a license suspension in the event of a conviction. He also was charged with three counts of child endangerment and traffic violations. Louisiana State Police said officers responded to a crash around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday after Green allegedly 'ran off the roadway' and struck a concrete barrier in the sprawling suburban parish outside New Orleans. Green and his children were not injured, the police statement said. While interacting with the lawmaker, officers said they noticed signs of impairment, according to the statement. Following a field sobriety test, Green was arrested. Green refused to submit to a breathalyzer test. The lawmaker did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment from The Associated Press. The second-term lawmaker was first elected in 2019 and is currently in the midst of Louisiana's 2025 Legislative Session. Under Louisiana law, legislators are 'privileged' from arrest under certain circumstances during their session, including if they are driving to or from committee meetings.

Louisiana lawmaker charged with DWI, child endangerment after auto accident
State Rep. Kyle Green asks questions from the floor of the Louisiana House Representatives on May 16, 2023. (Matthew Perschall/Louisiana Illuminator) A Louisiana lawmaker faces charges for driving while intoxicated and child endangerment after police said he was involved in a single-car wreck early Wednesday morning with his three children. Louisiana State Police arrived on the accident scene at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to a news release. State Rep. Kyle Green Jr., D-Marrero, reportedly veered off U.S. Highway 90 Business in West Jefferson near Ames Boulevard and struck a concrete barrier with his 2023 Honda Accord. Green and the children were uninjured, according to police. The children were released to a relative. 'Troopers noticed signs of impairment and conducted a series of standardized field sobriety tests. Green was subsequently placed under arrest,' the State Police release said. Green was taken to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center, where troopers said he refused to take a breath test. A judge's warrant allowed investigators to obtain blood samples and, based on the results, Green was booked for first offense DWI, three counts of DWI with child endangerment, careless operation, improper lane use and a traffic attachment from Jefferson Parish. State Police did not disclose Green's blood alcohol level. Green did not respond immediately to attempts to reach him Wednesday morning. Records from the Jefferson Parish jail show Green's total bond was $2,800. This is a developing story.
