Rookie's dad compares son's game to legendary Patriots Hall of Famer
Rookie's dad compares son's game to legendary Patriots Hall of Famer New England Patriots rookie wide receiver Kyle Williams has been a highly-touted draft pick, with multiple NFL analysts singing his praises before he even takes his first snap at the next level. It should come as no surprise that his father, Stephen Williams, is his biggest supporter. He even went as far as seemingly comparing Kyle Williams' playing style to legendary wideout Julian Edelman, who is set to be inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame this year. 'I'll put it this way. If they loved No. 11, they'll love No. 18,' Stephen Williams said, via Boston Globe's Christopher Price. The Patriots have not had the best of luck at drafting wide receivers. However, they have had modest success in developing them. Edelman is a perfect example. He was selected in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL draft and quickly became a staple of the Patriots' offense. Williams was one of the best pure separators in the 2025 NFL draft, and he has the ability to play in the slot and outside. He's a versatile receiving weapon with the tools to make an impact right away. In his final year at Washington State, he racked up 70 catches for 1,198 yards and 14 touchdowns. A player with Edelman-like traits would be a welcome addition to a Patriots offense that has looked like one of the worst in the league over the last two seasons. Kyle Williams looks sharp, and more takeaways from Pats rookie camp
Kyle Williams looks sharp, and more takeaways from Pats rookie camp originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston The New England Patriots' rookie class took the field Friday in Foxboro for their first NFL practice. Advertisement NBC Sports Boston's Patriots insider Phil Perry was in attendance for Day 1 of rookie minicamp. He came away with a handful of takeaways from the session, including a lasting impression made by new head coach Mike Vrabel and an impressive showing for third-round wide receiver Kyle Williams. Perry shared his rookie minicamp notes on the latest episode of the Next Pats Podcast. 🔊 Next Pats: Rookie Camp Takeaways – Mike Vrabel is a MACHINE | Listen & Subscribe | Watch on YouTube 'Boy, the man is non-stop,' Perry said of Vrabel. 'Toss that man some kind of pain reliever for the throat, specifically, because he is at a high volume and he is constantly saying something to someone. He just won't stop coaching. It was entertaining to watch. I'm sure it's beneficial to the players, because they are hanging on his every word. Advertisement 'At one point, he was wearing a yellow pinny with the number 51 on it. He's playing middle linebacker in an 11-on-11 sort of drill. He's working with defensive linemen in the individual position drills. … Maybe the most interesting part of the practice might have been when he was working with players on the punt coverage team, and just the timing and the footwork and the hand placement and the purpose, really. … He was in their ears constantly and letting them have it at times.' As for Williams, the Washington State product looked as advertised. 'He made a couple of really nice catches in this practice,' Perry said. 'One on a comeback route, corners playing way off and respecting the speed. Stops, comes back, not an easy catch. He had to actually leave his feet. Goes up, high-points the thing, comes down inbounds. That was probably his best catch of the day. … I thought it was a good practice for Kyle Williams, and we'll see moving forward just how much chemistry he's able to develop with a guy like Drake Maye. … 'Kyle Williams, to me, looks like an X receiver. That's where he was in college. His size might indicate that he should be somewhere else, according to some people. … He looks like an X here too, at least that's probably where they're gonna start him. … It will be interesting to see moving forward where they end up moving him around.' Patriots Kyle Williams is the sleeper WR you want to target in your dynasty drafts
Patriots Kyle Williams is the sleeper WR you want to target in your dynasty drafts | Yahoo Fantasy Forecast In our rookie dynasty mock draft episode on the Yahoo Fantasy Forecast podcast, Nate Tice and Matt Harmon discuss why New England Patriots WR Kyle Williams is the guy you want to take a chance on later in your dynasty rookie drafts. View more Video Transcript Trusting my board, maybe not what the consensus is, also trusting team fit and situation. Advertisement Kyle Williams. I knew this is what you were gonna do. I have to. I'm just looking at the next tier of guys and I'm like, well, also situation, this is like, I see a path and I just like the player a lot and I like where he ended up. I think him, he couldn't have gone to a better quarterback than Drake May and Drake May couldn't have gotten a better quarterback for him. Um, Drake is is a big game hunter and he pushes the ball. Kyle Williams is gonna thrive under that and where it's a difference though, like where a guy like Trevor Lawrence and some other guys might thrive or Bryce Young, they might thrive with a ball winner cause they give him a chances, those guys go up and get it. Advertisement May is kind of a guy that throws it out for his teammates where he wants guys to run to it as opposed to, you know, back shoulder it. Kyle Williams, here we are, like, run baby, run, and I think he's a real football player. It's not just speed and OK, whatever, it's speed that matches what he does on the field. He's competitive. I think realistically he'll end up being more like a good 2. Um, which is how I've graded. I'm not saying he might end up being just a de facto one in this offense, um, but down the road they'll have to get another guy, but I think no matter what, he's gonna have a nice usage, great synergy with the quarterback, a situation that's clean for him early, and I think he'll have a nice career. Advertisement So Kyle Williams here, I'm, I'm keen on getting him cause I have a lot of picks in this kind of second round range that I, I think this is exactly where I would take him. Yeah, this is the guy. This is the guy to be ahead of consensus on, um, like my rankings, which I'm not gonna reveal here because they are behind the paywall, uh, like they, they signal this as well, like, hey, take, take, take Kyle Williams ahead of where you're gonna see him. Elsewhere, so I'm, I'm with you there, um, like this is to me this is a big tier of receivers and it's just kind of take your flavor and take the guys that you believe in and you have conviction on, and I have conviction on Kyle Williams, you have conviction on Kyle, I might even be a little higher than you on on Williams, and just like, just on who he is, like, when you, God, when you're describing like The type of receiver Drake May wants, I can see like Kyle Williams doing it and like confidently catching the ball immediately turning into a yak threat and like boom, we're going here. Advertisement So uh think think how many uh touch or or targets Booty got last year. Booty who can barely run. Those are all Kyle Williams touches, like those are all those exact targets are going to Kyle Williams. That's that's why I'm excited about it. And those like were mostly perimeter like outside stuff, and I do think Kyle Williams could play outside, but he's gonna run so many more like in Brick, see, I think about like the stuff he did with Josh Downs at UNC. And like I love I love Josh Downs, but like Kyle Williams is a bit is a he's not I was higher on downs and I was Williams, but I was really, really high on downs. Advertisement But Williams is a superior player with the ball in his hands than than Josh Downs is. So again, I think there's a lot of fantasy value here. And even looking at, and again this is just where the boards are at right now, I'm just drawn to. I won't name their names because they're competitors, but 11 has the rookie Dynasty rankings. Kyle Williams is 24th overall player. The other one has them as the 34th overall player. So just even saying like I have this guy more as an early mid teens kind of guy. And and that's again, that's where I'm taking him that picked 15. So yeah.
