New director appointed by Coed Cadw Woodland Trust in Wales

Kylie Jones Mattock has been given the role at Coed Cadw, the Woodland Trust in Wales. She has a wealth of experience in woodland conservation and management. Ms Mattock has been with Coed Cadw for several years, previously serving as the site manager for north-west Wales. This role saw her manage sites like Coed Felenrhyd and Llennyrch, focusing on restoring ancient woodlands and promoting biodiversity. Her efforts have been key in protecting these habitats for future generations. More recently, she served as the estate manager for Coed Cadw, leading initiatives across Wales, including the acquisition and expansion of Brynau Farm. This project at Cefn Morfudd, near Neath, aims to transform the area into a green haven, providing new spaces for nature and public enjoyment, and reconnecting local communities with nature. The landscape is within easy reach of more than half a million people in south Wales. Ms Mattock said: "I am excited to take on the permanent role of director at Coed Cadw. "Wales' woodlands are a treasure trove of biodiversity and cultural significance. "I'm looking forward to working with our dedicated team, partners and communities to continue our mission of protecting, restoring, and creating resilient landscapes across Wales, ensuring that Wales' woods and trees are preserved and enhanced for generations to come." Her dedication extends beyond site management. She has been actively involved in advocating for the protection and restoration of Wales' temperate rainforests. She has played a key role in the development of the Alliance for Wales' Rainforests since becoming interim director since October 2024. It is a collaboration of conservation organisations committed to safeguarding these ecosystems. She has also represented Wales Environment Link and Coed Cadw during the development of the new Sustainable Farming Scheme.
