The Devil's Plan: Death Room – Season 2 Episode 1 Recap & Review

The Crooked Cops Episode 1 of The Devil's Plan season 2 starts with the contestants slowly getting to the mansion. One by one, they shyly greet each other and settle in. There are some familiar faces, such as Kyu-hun from Super Junior, a few actors, and a news anchor. Soon, all 14 contestants are introduced, and the master announces the rules of the mansion. The Rules of The Mansion Each contestant will be given a piece. They will play different games throughout their one week at the mansion to win other pieces. Based on their performance, a contestant can win or lose a piece. In other words, the pieces are their currency. They can use the pieces to pay fines, purchase special items, and tools in some games. Lastly, they can use the pieces in negotiations and transactions with other players. At the end of the game, the player with the most pieces will automatically advance to the final round. Lastly, any player who loses all of their pieces will be automatically eliminated. Every day, the contestants will play two games. The first match takes place during the day. Those who win the main match get an opportunity to earn new pieces. During the main match, the players also have a chance to build up the total prize money through a prize mission. For now, the prize money is at zero. The prize mission will be different for each main match, so it won't be easy for the player to win. The master informs them that the total prize money they can earn is 500 million Won. Their stay at the house will be determined by hierarchy. The top half players with the highest number of pieces after each main match have the opportunity to stay in the Living Quarters. Here, they will experience luxury, while the players in the bottom half will live in the prison block. If there is an odd number, one extra player will be sent to prison. If the group can't be split in half because multiple players have the same number of pieces, the player with the most pieces decides who to send to prison. The players in prison are not allowed to leave until the next day to participate in the main match. The prison is on full lockdown. The second match will be held every night, and only those players in prison will participate. This match will determine who gets eliminated. All the players in prison have to play the death match. The mansion is divided into three areas: the living quarters, the prison block, and the game zone. The players can only enter the game zone during the main match. The players in prison are not allowed in the living quarters for any reason. There is also the death zone where those in prison will play their death match. The players can only exchange pieces with people in their specific living area. This means those in prison can't exchange pieces with those in the living quarters. They also can't exchange pieces in the game zones. Lastly, violence and theft are strictly prohibited. The players are free to collude, backstab, strategize and form alliances. After announcing the rules, the master allows the players some time to get more acquainted and tour the house. The players go over the rules again while forming little groups. However, Hyun Gyu is a bit overwhelmed and chooses to be by himself. 7High approaches him and quickly tries to break the ice. Shortly after, the Master announces the first match and asks the players to head to the game zone. The Rules of the Game The first match is Crooked Cops. The game will be played on an intricate map based on the Seoul subway system. In this game, the players will be divided into four teams. The first team comprises two thieves. The remaining players will be police officers divided into three teams, with four people on each team. The three teams will be called Red, Blue and Green. Two out of the twelve officers are corrupt. Their identity will be hidden from everyone except the two thieves and each other. Throughout the game, the corrupt officers have to help the thieves escape capture. Meanwhile, the thieves will move around the game board, secretly collecting pieces without being arrested. The teams will be separated into different rooms. The players can mingle outside their active rooms until the start of the two final rounds. The corrupt officers will be updated on the thieves' moves via a radio. There are 28 pieces hidden on the map. Only the thieves know the locations of all the pieces. The police officers are allowed to place two or more movers at one station. All the police movements will be visible to everyone. Once the game begins, the police officers will place their movers first. The thieves will then place their movers, taking into account the hidden pieces and the police movers. Only the corrupt officers will know the location of the thieves' movers. The game is supposed to go for fifteen rounds. The thieves get to move first before the police in the following rounds. The teams will alternate the order they move with every round. This allows each team to get a fair start to chase after the thieves. The police are free to investigate or make an arrest. Once they investigate the station, they might get a clue. The clues reveal the traces of the thieves' movement, showing whether they passed there. Only the relevant player can check the clue box. It is also up to them to reveal their findings to the team. They can also lie about their findings. After that, the team can decide whether to share the information with the other teams. As for the arrests, they can only happen in the station that one is currently in or after moving one space. All successful arrests will be announced. However, if a corrupt cop arrests one of the thieves, the arrest becomes invalid. Lastly, all movers in each team have to make a move within a five-minute limit. The thieves can move no more than two squares in three minutes. Once they get to a station with a piece, the thieves automatically collect it. The thieves can only collect 12 pieces. Once they collect all twelve out of the 28 pieces on the map. At the end of rounds five and ten, the total number of pieces collected by the thieves will be announced. If at any point the thieves are arrested, they lose all the pieces they have collected and isolated immediately. There are three ways for the game to end. If the thieves are arrested. If the thieves collect all twelve pieces or if the players complete the fifteen rounds. After the game ends, the police officers have to vote on who they think is corrupt. If an ordinary cop's team arrest a thief, each member gets a piece. If they get the corrupt cop on their team right, they get another piece. If an ordinary cop is accused of being corrupt, they don't get a piece even when they are innocent. They also miss out on a piece in case they arrest a thief. If a thief is arrested, they lose the pieces that they collected in that round. If the thieves evade arrest, they have to share the pieces with the corrupt cops. If the corrupt cops are caught, the thieves keep the pieces. Lastly, if the main game ends at the eleventh round, the prize money is raised to 100 million won. Starting from the 12th round, each round incurs a cost of 20 million won for the players. This means to get the full prize money, they need to end the game before or on the eleventh round. After the rules announcement, the players discuss the rules as they wait to be divided into their respective teams. The teams will be decided by pure luck. Each player gets into a room and picks a random card. The card decides their character and team in the game. Soon, all the players pick their cards, and Soo-hee and Tinno are the thieves. Meanwhile, Ji-young starts to suspect Hyu-hun, Tinno and 7High. The three seem to be chatty and secretive to her. The Teams & The Game The Blue Team consists of Kyu-hun. Ji-young, Chuu and Eun-hyo. The red team is made up of 7High, Justin. Sang-hyeon and Seung-hyun. On the other hand, Se-dol, Hyun-gyu, Ha-rin, and Hyun-joon make up the green team. After picking their teams, the master gives the players 30 minutes to strategize before the game begins. Most of the teams have the same idea on where to place their movers. They also talk about who they suspect are the corrupt cops and why they need to secure the prize money at all costs. In the blue team, Ji-young tries to dodge the multiple suspicions levelled against her. 7High tries to get Tinno to reveal the thieves plan. However, Tinno insist they will trust the corrupt cops. The game starts and lasts for 12 rounds. Unfortunately, the players lost 20 million Won from the prize money. In the end, the prize money for the first match drops to 80 million Won. Throughout the game, the police teams get some clues but are unable to make a successful arrest. This is mostly due to the red team's strategy to confuse the other teams. Everyone blames 7High and starts suspecting him of being a corrupt cop. The other teams decide to join forces and exclude the red team. Meanwhile, the corrupt cops cover all the thieves' movements, leading to the thieves collecting all twelve pieces. After the game ends, the teams move to vote for the corrupt cop. However, Tinno and So-hee have been messing with the teams during the game. Tinno leads the blue team to suspect Chuu, but Eun-hyo is hesitant. She has her sights on Kyu-hun, but he fiercely defends himself. Things get heated when Ji-young also starts to question everything. In the end, the blue team votes for Ji-young. In the meantime, the green team votes for Se-dol while the red team votes for no one. After all is set and done, the master announces that Kyu-hun and Hyun-gyu were the corrupt thieves. Everyone is in shock as no one expected the culprit to be Kyu-hun. The Episode Review It is interesting to see some familiar faces in a different light. Most of us are used to seeing Kyu-hun as a singer, host, and actor. It was quite a twist for him to end up as a corrupt cop. He played his cards right and confused everyone – even Se-dol vouched for him! I can't wait to see Ji-young's reaction. The first match was entertaining, but the rules made it look like it was complicated. As Kyu-hun said, they were more or less playing a mafia this first match, the players will have to be more careful who they trust. Hyun-gyu kept to himself a lot, so it was hard to guess what he was thinking. This is only the first game, but it is about to shake things up. They can now assess and analyse who they want to make alliances with. Se-dol has stood out from the moment he entered the mansion. Everyone is excited to see how the former professional Go player will fare in this challenge. Of course, the other contestants also have mind-blowing skill sets. At this point, it's difficult to predict a winner, but for now, all participants have an equal opportunity to win. Next Episode Expect A Full Season Write-Up When This Season Concludes!
