Lansing Art Gallery and Education Center to close permanently
LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Lansing Art Gallery and Education Center () will officially close after 60 years at the end of April due to ongoing financial issues.
In September 2024, LAGEC's board of directors temporarily closed the gallery to reevaluate financials and suspended operations to focus on reorganizing exhibits and educational programs after a decrease in donations, sponsorships, grants, and attendance.

In a news release sent to 6 News, LAGEC said after months of developing plans to secure funding, the financial situation remained flawed.
'We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported the Lansing Art Gallery over theyears — from staff and board members to the local community and artists,' said the Board ofDirectors. 'This has been an incredibly difficult decision, but we are proud of the gallery's legacyand the important role it has played in shaping the cultural fabric of Lansing. We look forward towatching the other arts organizations beautify our community.'
The gallery will host a final Thursday, April 3 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will feature local and statewide artwork that's available for purchase.
The gallery's last solo exhibition, Dog Days will be displayed during the final Closing Reception on Thursday and Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Saturday, April 26th, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Sunday, April 27th, 11 a.m. -3 p.m.
