(Mike Stobe/LIV Golf via AP) DORAL, Fla. (AP) — LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil said Wednesday that he has not been directly involved with reunification talks between his tour and the PGA Tour since taking his job three months ago, adding that he doesn't believe such a deal is absolutely necessary. Those negotiations involving the PGA Tour and the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia have gone on for more than a year now, some of them even with President Donald Trump involved. At times, progress seems to be happening. Other times, not so much. Advertisement 'If the deal can help grow the game of golf, I'll jump in with two feet," O'Neil said at Trump National Doral, the president's course where LIV will play this weekend — and where Trump is expected to appear, possibly as early as Thursday. "Do we have to do a deal? No. Is it nice to do a deal? So long as we're all focused on the same thing, to grow the game of golf.' What that means remains unclear, and likely is one of the reasons why there is no deal yet. The divide in golf has been there for nearly three years now since LIV got off the ground. LIV players such as Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka are banned from playing on the PGA Tour. That means the world's top players are competing against one another only four times a year at the majors. 'I think we all hoped it would have been a little bit further along, and that's no secret,' Koepka said. 'No matter where you're at, you always hope everything is further along. But they're making progress, and it seems to be going in the right direction.' Advertisement Earlier this year, PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan made clear that he still thinks a deal is possible. 'We believe there's room to integrate important aspects of LIV Golf into the PGA Tour platform," Monahan said last month. "We're doing everything that we can to bring the two sides together.' Monahan has said that the priority of the meetings with PIF was about reuniting all the best players more often. 'Our team is fully committed to reunification,' Monahan said. O'Neil and Monahan know each other, and O'Neil has been invited to Augusta National for the Masters next week. O'Neil said in an interview session with a handful of reporters that he's encouraged by what he's seen in his first three months at LIV. The players, he said, are much more competitive even off the course than he envisioned. He said more sponsor deals are done and waiting to be announced. He insisted that ratings will improve now that LIV is playing in North America and not during what was the middle of the night for much of the U.S. for the season's first four stops — Saudi Arabia, Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore. Advertisement 'We don't know everything that's going on, but from what we've heard, there's a lot of positive growth and positive momentum from a sponsorship side,' DeChambeau said. O'Neil also pointed to what he says are ways LIV is growing the game, citing that 30% of its fans have never been to a golf tournament before and 40% of the crowd is female. 'We're a global sport. We're (Formula 1) of golf. F1, I imagine, has more people watching in (Asia-Pacific) when they're in Singapore than they do when they're in Miami," O'Neil said. "I like where we are. I like it a lot.' ___ AP golf:

Fireballs GC wins LIV Golf Singapore, secures third straight team title
SINGAPORE – The winning streak continues for Sergio Garcia's Fireballs GC. The wins keep piling up for Torque GC Captain Joaquin Niemann . Fueled by another Sunday charge, the Fireballs won LIV Golf Singapore by three shots for their third consecutive team title this season. It's the longest win streak for either a team or individual player since 4Aces GC won four straight team titles during the inaugural LIV Golf Invitational Series in 2022. [Related: What is LIV Golf? Format, everything to know about the 2025 season ] The Fireballs will try to match that at next month's LIV Golf Miami, April 4-6. "We're the only ones that can keep the streak alive," Garcia said. "Hopefully we'll keep it going." Niemann won for the second time in the last three tournaments, shooting the day's only bogey-free round, a 6-under 65 to win by five shots. The 26-year-old Chilean moves atop the Individual Champion points standings and will seek to maintain that status for at least the next two months in hopes of earning the LIV Golf exemption into this year's U.S. Open. "Today was one of those days," said Niemann, who won by three shots in Adelaide . "Everything went my way." Both winning efforts capped off impressive performances at Sentosa Golf Club's challenging 7,420-yard Serapong course. The Fireballs won despite an ailing Garcia, last week's individual winner in Hong Kong , who came down with bronchitis and had a fever of 102.4 on the eve of the tournament. He battled to shoot even par for the week but his three teammates, led by David Puig's solo fourth at 10 under, stepped up to rally from an eight-shot deficit to start the final round. "This week was a tough week because I've been sick all week and haven't been able to help the team as much as I would have liked to," Garcia said. "To see the performance that my teammates put in to be able to get this win was pretty impressive." [Read more: 'The perfect captain': How Sergio Garcia is lifting Fireballs GC behind the scenes] Puig's 5-under 66 was supported by Luis Masaveu's 68 and Abraham Ancer's 69 as the team shot 10-under on Sunday, tying for the lowest team score of the day. "Counting four scores, eight strokes seem like a lot, but it can change in two holes," Ancer said. "We just told ourselves that, and we just needed to take care of business and play our game." For the 23-year-old Puig, it's his eighth overall LIV Golf team victory, more than any other player. He won four times with Niemann's Torque GC in 2023 and now has won four times with Fireballs GC. "I love team golf," Puig said. "I think I'm a good team player. I like to be surrounded by a good group of guys, and I have them here at the Fireballs. I just have a lot of fun, and I never give up, and I just love it." Niemann entered the final round tied with Dustin Johnson, the 4Aces GC captain. The duel between the major hopeful and the two-time major winner never materialized. Niemann birdied his opening hole, then added four more birdies during a five-hole stretch between holes No. 4-8, eventually finishing at 17 under. Meanwhile, Johnson suffered two bogeys on his first nine, then two more after the turn, shooting a 2-over 73 to drop into a tie for fifth at 9 under. As it turned out, Niemann's biggest challenger was defending Singapore champion Brooks Koepka, who birdied his first three holes and matched Niemann's 65 to finish solo second at 12 under. "Not really hitting it great," Koepka said, "but kind of tried to figure out how to finish second because first was obviously out of reach." Out of reach because Niemann has become a dominant force in LIV Golf. He won two of the first three tournaments in 2024 and led the points standings for most of the season until being caught late by Legion XIII Captain Jon Rahm. Now he's atop the standings again with two wins in the first four events. He quickly turned his attention to LIV Golf Miami. "There [are] a few things that I can improve, then go down to Miami and have a chance to win," he said. "I feel like that for me is really exciting to become a better player and try to get better every day." TEAM SCORES LIV Golf's new scoring format this season now involves all four scores now counting in every round in the team competition. Here are the results and scores for each team after Sunday's Round 3 of LIV Golf Singapore. 1. FIREBALLS GC -22 (Puig 66, Masaveu 68, Ancer 69, Garcia 71; Rd. 3: -10) 2. Joaquin Niemann makes major statement after win at 2025 LIV Golf Singapore
Joaquin Niemann isn't afraid to call his shot. "I know I'm going to win a major. I know it's going to happen," he said Sunday. The claim may seem bold, but for the 26-year-old Chilean, he seems to be rounding into form heading into major season. Niemann picked up his second victory in the last three events, running away to win LIV Golf Singapore by five shots at Sentosa Golf Club on Sunday. It's his sixth worldwide win dating to December 2023, and it moved him to first in the LIV Golf individual standings, which is significant. An individual in the top three of the LIV Golf standings, who's not already exempt into the U.S. Open, will receive a spot in the field at Oakmont come May 19. The U.S. Golf Association's major is the only one Niemann is not in the field for in 2025, but he's doing his best to change that. "Obviously it's one of the goals to qualify for the majors," Niemann said. "Yeah, I feel like it just comes. Hopefully I can get that spot before Miami. I feel like that's not my main focus. It's obviously something that it would favor me if I play good golf, but like I said before, I'm here to make my team win, to get a good result for them and motivate them to do those good results." Niemann entered the final round tied with Dustin Johnson, who opened in 8-under 63 at Sentosa on Friday, for the lead, but Niemann was brilliant on Sunday. He blistered the field with a 6-under 65, winning by five shots over Brooks Koepka. The 6-under mark was tied for the best score on Sunday, with Koepka, and was Niemann's second LIV win in three events, as he took the title in Adelaide. LIV Golf has one more event before the Masters, its U.S. debut in 2025 at Trump Doral in Miami next month. Niemann is hoping to play well there, but he feels as if his game is trending for the majors either way. "I have it on my mind. I know that I've been playing great out here, and if I look back into my stats, I haven't had a great result in majors. It's something that kind of bothers me all the time," Niemann said. "But I feel like if I see the bigger picture and -- I saw an interview the other day from Greg Norman back in the day when he was World No. 1 and I hadn't won a major yet, and I liked his answer because it's completely true. If you ask me, I'm pretty sure and I'm pretty calm about it because I know it's going to come. Maybe not at the Masters this next three weeks, maybe yes. I have no idea. I just know it's going to happen. "All I'm worried about is how I'm going to improve and how I'm going to feel better in those tough situations because the sooner and the more I learn from those situations, I feel like the more ready I'm going to be. The way my game trending, I know it's going to happen eventually, so I'm pretty calm knowing that." In the team competition, Sergio Garcia's Fireballs GC won its third straight event, finishing at 22 under, three shots ahead of Jon Rahm's Legion XIII.
