Lil Wayne opens Tha Carter VI tour with LL Cool J at Madison Square Garden

Lil Wayne launched Tha Carter VI tour with a special performance alongside LL Cool J at Madison Square Garden, delivering a joint set that honoured the legacy of hip-hop. Wayne brought LL Cool J on stage to perform 'Bells,' the breakout track from his latest album, which samples the classic 'Rock The Bells.' As the crowd erupted, LL Cool J delivered verses from his original hit before joining Wayne in trading lines over the updated version. Tha Carter VI tour is set to visit major cities including Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Toronto. Supporting acts Tyga and Belly Gang Kushginton are slated to appear at various stops. Despite the tour's strong start, Wayne's new album has received mixed reactions since its June 6 release. The 19-track album reunites the iconic Young Money trio—Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Wayne—and also features a diverse lineup including MGK, Miley Cyrus, Andrea Bocelli, Bono, Wyclef Jean, and Wayne's son, Kameron Carter, blending hip-hop, rock, opera, and pop into a genre-fluid experience. Among the mixed reactions to the album, common critiques from listeners highlight inconsistent production, lack of lyrical sharpness, and a tracklist seen as excessive. High-profile features from 2 Chainz, Kodak Black, and Bono were also viewed as unfocused by many listeners. However, some praised Wayne's risk-taking and introspective tone, though such support remained limited.
