Bay Path University hosts panel for future journalists
LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – One local university held a panel Tuesday morning to educate future journalists on the changing world of news, there was also a special guest and a familiar face at the event. The media landscape over the past decade has changed drastically. Local professionals across multiple platforms spoke to students about navigating this changing field. Bay Path University held the panel discussion titled 'Amplify Our Voices and Stories in a World of Change' at its Longmeadow campus. The panel included figures like radio hosts Monte Belmonte and Kaliis Smith. Our very own 22News storm team meteorologist Brian Lapis took part in the panel and talked about how the new generation of journalists can stay educated. 'I think it's important that our young journalists consume a wide range of news across the political and cultural spectrum and carve out some time to watch and read journalism local and regional and national,' Lapis adds. Students asked questions to the speakers about a wide variety of topics from working in an intergenerational environment to finding the best ways to reach their audience. Yeshiva Academy celebrates Purim in Longmeadow with live music and performances
LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – The Lubavitcher Yeshiva Academy in Longmeadow continued its celebrations of the Jewish holiday, Purim. The community came together to commemorate the Jewish people of Persia being saved from persecution over 2,000 years ago. They celebrated the holiday with an 80's-style New York deli dinner and live music, a costume contest, and a performance from students who attend the school. This day also remembers Queen Esther, a Jewish woman who risked her life to save her people. But 22News spoke with the Rabbi Noach Kosofsky about how we are seeing history repeat itself. '2,500 years ago, there were people trying to wipe out the Jews, antisemitism,' he says. 'And guess what? Right here today, 2025, again, we see the terrorists taking poor Jewish people, infants, adults, women.' The Rabbi adds that this day is about staying strong as a Jewish nation. In addition to dressing up and eating a large meal, they also celebrate Purim by giving food gifts to their friends and giving money to the less fortunate. The story of Esther's role in saving the Jewish nation so many centuries ago has been passed down from generation to generation as families celebrate the joyous holiday of Purim. Yeshiva Academy celebrates Purim with music and fun
LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – The Yeshiva Academy in Longmeadow kicked off its two-day celebration of the Jewish Holiday, Purim, with a celebration of live music. The holiday highlights the victory Jewish people achieved over 2,000 years ago in the land of Persia, when there was a plan to eradicate them. This two-day holiday is a celebration of their survival. 'As Jews, we're part of the broader community,' says Rabbi Lavy Kosofsky. 'It's also important to hold onto our tradition, onto our faith, onto our observances–this is what keeps us strong throughout all the generations.' The Yeshiva Academy will continue the festivities Friday with an 80's-style New York deli dinner, live music, a costume contest, and a performance from students who attend the school.
