After Spat With LSG Star Digvesh Rathi, Abhishek Sharma's Intriguing Meeting With Sanjiv Goenka

The on-field spat between Lucknow Super Giants spinner Digvesh Rathi and Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma became the new talk of the town. The incident took place during the IPL 2025 match between the two teams on Monday in Lucknow when Digvesh did his trademark 'notebook' celebration after dismissing Abhishek. The celebration by the LSG spinner did not go well with Abhishek as the SRH opener charged at Digvesh in anger, resulting in umpires intervening and making peace between the two players. After the game, the spat continued as during the post-match handshake, the duo again exchanged some words and this time, LSG assistant coach Vijay Dahiya also intervened and urged them to sort the differences out. Few moments later, both Abhishek and Digvesh were seen walking with arms on each other's shoulders. Amid all this drama, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka also came out and had a quick chat with Abhishek. In this moment, SRH batter Ishan Kishan was also present with the duo and some pictures of their meeting went viral on social media. "I spoke to him after the game and it is all good now. If we batted first, I might have had other plans but chasing such a total we had a clear plan. If you ask any player who has been doing well for the team, chasing 200 plus something you should be able to win the powerplay," said Abhishek. "I wanted to express myself and if I do well, I know the team is gonna do well as well. It was the same plan I had in international cricket as well. Just express myself and knock it around," he added. Talking about Digvesh, the LSG spinner has been handed a one-match suspension by the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council for repeated breach of the league's Code of Conduct. Rathi had already been penalised twice by the IPL for his extravagant celebrations after taking wickets in LSG's matches. The spinner was fined 50 percent match fee and was also handed a suspension from LSG's next game against the Gujarat Titans. Abhishek Sharma was also penalised by the BCCI for his alteraction with Digvesh during the match. The IPL release further read: "Abhishek Sharma, All-rounder, Sunrisers Hyderabad has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team's match against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Monday. This was his first Level 1 offence under Article 2.6 this season and hence, he has accumulated One Demerit Point.

Sanjiv Goenka rests hands on Rishabh Pant after LSG's exit from IPL 2025 playoffs, says ‘it's been a challenging…'

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka admitted it's been a challenging season for them in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) but want to win their remaining two games and finish their campaign with head held high. The Lucknow-based franchise, which came into existence in 2022, failed to make it to the playoffs for the second consecutive season on Monday. With three wins in as many games needed at the IPL 2025 resumption, LSG were in a do-or-die situation when they faced Sunrisers Hyderabad. A six-wicket loss to Pat Cummins' side dashed all hopes as LSG became the fifth team after Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad to bow out of playoffs race. With the chatter around LSG's future plans ongoing on social media, keeping Rishabh Pant in the picture, Goenka poured his heart out with a post X, highlighting their IPL 2025 campaign. "It's been a challenging second half of the season, but there's much to take heart in. The spirit, the effort, and the moments of excellence give us a lot to build on. Two games remain. Let's play with pride and finish strong. #LSGvsSRH," Goenka wrote along with a picture where he is resting his hands on the shoulders of a smiling Pant. Earlier, Goenka was caught on camera storming out of the Ekana Stadium balcony following Pant's dismissal during the game. The LSG skipper was dismissed for seven runs from six balls. Having made headlines during the mega auction last year with R 27 crore-buy Rishabh Pant, LSG built a competitive team with a plethora of match-winners like Mitchell March, Aiden Markram and others. However, injuries to their pace attack played a part in their season. In 12 games so far, LSG lost seven matches and won only five. They have two more games left in the season against Gujarat Titans (May 22) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (May 27). Stay updated on all the action from the IPL 2025. Sanjiv Goenka Breaks Silence On LSG's IPL 2025 Exit, Posts Intriguing Picture With Rishabh Pant

Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka had big expectations from his franchise, especially after he managed to bring a marquee player like Rishabh Pant to the team. LSG had a headline-making mega auction last year that saw them rope in the wicket-keeper batter for a record-breaking fee of INR 27 crore. Despite possessing a batting unit comprising of top players like Nicholas Pooran, Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, Rishabh Pant, David Miller, etc. the franchise couldn't finish in the last four. LSG had a glimmer of hope of reaching the knockouts but the defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday put them out of contention. As chatter around the franchise's future plans, especially with regards to skipper Rishabh Pant, floods social media, owner Sanjiv Goenka poured his heart out, highlighting his learnings from the campaign. "It's been a challenging second half of the season, but there's much to take heart in. The spirit, the effort, and the moments of excellence give us a lot to build on. Two games remain. Let's play with pride and finish strong. #LSGvsSRH," Goenka wrote on X (formerly Twitter). It's been a challenging second half of the season, but there's much to take heart in. Some of the other players from the team can be seen sitting around Pant in the picture. After the defeat against the Sunrisers, Pant highlighted the team's injury-plauged bowling unit as the biggest reason behind the poor show this season. "We knew we had gaps to fill because of injuries. As a team we had decided not to talk about it. But it became to close the gaps. The way we planned the auction, if we would have had the same bowling, the story would have been different. Sometimes things go your way, sometimes they don't. We take pride in the way we played and will look at the positives," Pant had said after the game.

[WATCH] Nicholas Pooran loses cool after Abdul Samad's dismissal; slams pads in frustration during LSG innings collapse

Lucknow Super Giants' star batter Nicholas Pooran was visibly enraged in the dressing room during the final over against Sunrisers Hyderabad after a series of chaotic dismissals — all triggered after he was run out due to Abdul Samad's failure to rotate strike. Pooran, who was looking dangerous with 45 off just 26 balls, was left stranded and eventually run out in the 19th over while Samad remained on strike. In the very next over, frustration peaked when Samad was dismissed on the 5th ball (19.5) — bowled by Nitish Reddy. Pooran, watching from the dugout, was seen slamming his pads against the glass wall, clearly upset over how the final overs unfolded. Advertisement Video show Pooran's outburst just moments after Samad's wicket. His anger stemmed from the fact that he not only got run out without facing more balls but also had to watch Shardul Thakur get run out and then Samad bowled — all within the space of 4 balls — completely derailing LSG's momentum. Pooran's frustration captured the mood in the LSG camp as what could have been a massive finish ended with three wickets tumbling and no real contribution from the lower order.
