Man arrested in St. Mary Parish for murder and drug charges
ST. MARY PARISH, La. (KLFY) — Wanted for several charges, including murder, Corey James Hunter, 48, of Morgan City was arrested earlier this morning, deputies said. Hunter was arrested and charged for three counts of resisting arrest or officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of CDS, transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses, resisting an officer by giving false information, disturbing the peace-intoxicated and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, deputies said. In addition, officials said Hunter also held three other arrest warrants for the following charges possession of cocaine, resisting an officer, flight from an officer, driving under suspension, failure to signal when turning and possession of drug paraphernalia. Subscribe Now Earlier this morning deputies said they were patrolling the Siracusaville area when they observed Hunter stumbling in the roadway. As they approached Hunter, he fled on foot and fell into a roadside ditch partially filled with water. Deputies quickly made contact with Hunter, who allegedly resisted and provided false information during the encounter. During the interaction, Hunter allegedly in possession of crack to his intoxicated condition, deputies transported Hunter to a medical facility to be medically cleared prior to booking. While verifying his identity, deputies received confirmation Corey Hunter was also wanted in Albuquerque, New Mexico, for medical clearance, Hunter was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. His bond was set at $350,000, and a hold was placed for the out-of-state agency. Man pleads guilty after shooting at Gonzales house party in 2017
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A man accused of a deadly shooting at a house party in 2017 entered a guilty plea. According to the 23rd Judicial District Attorney's office, Joshua Harris, 27, of Thibodaux, pleaded guilty to manslaughter after the death of Jerrod Brown, 25. Deputies with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office were called to the area of Superior Wood Avenue regarding a shooting on June 24, 2017. Upon arrival, deputies found Brown with multiple gunshot wounds. Brown was taken to a hospital, where he later died of his injuries. Detectives learned the two were involved in a verbal argument before Harris brandished two guns and started shooting in Brown's direction. Harris, who was 19 years old at the time, fled the area on foot. Harris was sentenced to 20 years, with credit for time served.
