LVAC workers, members return to gym 3 days after deadly shooting
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Workers and members returned on Monday to the Las Vegas Athletic Club after Friday's deadly shooting. One man died and three others were injured in the shooting at the gym on Rainbow Boulevard near Vegas Drive on Friday. Metro police officers shot and killed the gunman, identified as 34-year-old Daniel Ortega. The man who died was 31-year-old Edgar Quinonez, who worked at LVAC for 15 years. LVAC's Facebook and Instagram pages described Quinonez as more than a colleague. He was a source of kindness, dedication, and positivity, posts said. 2 dead, including shooter in Las Vegas gym shooting; police report multiple victims 'I think that it's horrible that someone can walk into a gym unannounced with a rifle. They need to have some armed security guards here with actual guns so they can do what they need to stop that,' LVAC member Cory Ferraiuolo said. For many who were at the gym Friday, coming back wasn't easy, but they wanted to show their support. LVAC member Ray Smith was at the gym about an hour before the shooting took place. Smith believes situations like these are becoming too common and would also like to see additional security measures put in place. 'If there was a security guard at the gym, I'm sure that would have had some effect,' Smith said. On the gym marquee, a message was posted from LVAC thanking Metro and first responders for their quick action and support. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
