The appointment of Xabi Alonso has been met with plenty of optimism at Real Madrid, who are ready for fresh impetus after an exhausting season. In particular, the arrival of Alonso appears to have given fresh hope to La Fabrica products that they will be able to break into the first team. Raul Asencio is the first to crack the senior squad since Nacho Fernandez without a move away first, but his breakout season was a consequence of desperation. However Alonso's record of using young players seems to open the door more than under Carlo Ancelotti. Certainly the Basque manager is setting out his stall the right way. Aguado featured earlier this season in the Copa del Rey, and can play as either a left-back or a central defender. Meanwhile Fortea, recruited from Atletico Madrid at the age of 15, has been described as one of the brightest talents in Spanish football at right-back. Full-backs David Jimenez, Lorenzo Aguado and Yusi could also travel, but a decision has yet to be made. That was due to the fact that Raul Gonzalez was not using him for the Castilla side, and neither did Ancelotti show faith during their injury crisis. Now with his under-19s manager Alvaro Arbeloa taking over at Castilla, and Alonso the senior job, Fortea has more faith, and The Athletic say Los Blancos have opened contract talks with Fortea again, which were put on hold earlier in the year.

Former La Fabrica talent Nico Paz has made a dramatic entrance into senior football, emerging as Young Player of the Year in Serie A at Como. Paz made a handful of appearances for Real Madrid's first team, but decided on a move to Lake Garda for more opportunities last summer. However Los Blancos had little doubt that they wanted to retain control over the future of Paz and his talent. It was reported in March that they were intending on activating it, but more recent reporting has claimed that they are still making up their minds on the 20-year-old. How will Nico Paz fit in at Real Madrid? At this stage it is not clear what approach or shape Xabi Alonso will be using, and so it is difficult to predict what kind of role Paz will have. It is notable that both Paz and Arda Guler wiill provide Alonso with young, talented playmakers, with some wondering whether both can receive sufficient minutes. Generally they do like to cut in from opposite sides. Como are keen to keep Paz, while Inter had identified Paz as an option, and Guler as an alternative if Real Madrid did bring him back.

Carreras is of course of course a former star of Madrid's La Fabrica academy who left the club in 2017 as a teenager. From said year until 2020, he continued his youth soccer journey at Manchester United and turned professional in northwestern England though he failed to make a single senior appearance for the Red Devils amid loan spells at Preston North End and Granada in his homeland Spain. Another temporary assignment in Lisbon proved the most successful of the three while still on United's books, and Portuguese giants Benfica made the deal permanent by reportedly paying a €6 million fee for the left back which would be mandatory if he started more than 50% of his new club's games. Carreras did that and then some, and played a pivotal role in Benfica's run to the Champions League last 16. Though his team fell to Spanish domestic kings FC Barcelona, Carreras was commended for doing a good job of keeping Lamine Yamal under wraps, which might have influenced Madrid president Florentino Perez's decision to make a pursuit for the 22-year-old. Romano didn't quote any figures for the potential capture, but Defensa Central, citing anonymous sources, reported that Madrid will offer a maximum of €30 million for his services. Buying Carreras would see Madrid continue to make defensive reinforcements after Perez refused to do so in past seasons while Carlo Ancelotti was still in charge. Already, we have seen Los Blancos sign Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth by triggering his £50 million release clause. In the coming weeks, we should also expect to see Trent Alexander-Arnold become a Real Madrid Galactico by switching allegiances on a free transfer from Liverpool.

Real Madrid have been very quiet during this month's winter transfer window, and that is expected to remain the case until next week's deadline. The first team will certainly not be touched, with the only possibility being a departure or two from Raul Gonzalez's Castilla squad. A number of La Fabrica talents have attracted interest in recent weeks, and one of those is Victor Munoz. The 21-year-old, who can play as a winger or striker, has been a standout player for Castilla so far this season, having amassed seven goals and four assists in 20 appearances. And because of this, he is being noticed. As per Relevo, Getafe and Real Valladolid have both asked Real Madrid to take Munoz on loan for the remainder of the 2024-25 season. However, they have both seen their advanced turned down. Gomez, who had been trained at La Masia until 2017, isn't the only player that will not be allowed to leave Real Madrid Castilla before next week's deadline, as teammate Gonzalo Garcia Torres, who has attracted interest from the Bundesliga, has also been told that he will not be allowed to depart mid-season. Real Madrid have regularly sought to sell their talented young players in order to generate funds, while also retaining a hold on their future with sell-on or buy-back clauses. Munoz is happy to stay at Real Madrid until the end of the season, as he is hoping to gain an opportunity to get into the thoughts of Carlo Ancelotti, just like Jeremy de Leon did during the previous campaign. However, it will be tough given the attacking talent that already exists in the first team.
