Strike Out ALS raises money in support of local athletic director, families for second year
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The second annual Strikeout ALS fundraising event was held at Eastridge High School and Honeoye Falls-Lima High School on Saturday.
The fundraiser is held to support and bring awareness to individuals and families impacted by Lou Gehrig's disease diagnoses.

LaPietra served as the athletic director of Joseph C. Wilson Magnet High School Commencement Academy for years, contributing to the lives of athletes and faculty he worked with. While he has been able to continue working in a role as athletic director for modified sports, ALS has limited his physical ability and has placed him in a wheelchair.
It began last year, organized in support of Rochester City School District athletic director Joe LaPietra, who had been diagnosed with ALS.
Fellow directors and community members hope to raise over $1,000 to contribute to the cause and help other Western and Central New York families, such as LaPiera's, receive the resources and financial help necessary during a difficult time.
The event, curated by athletic trainers from across the Rochester area, featured 10 games of softball and baseball between both sites.
Participating teams included East High School, Edison Career and Technology High School, Padilla High School at the Franklin Campus, School of the Arts, and LaPiera's Joseph C. Wilson Magnet High School Commencement Academy.
