Ladda dacoity case: One accused's name cropped up in 2023 list of illicit business operators in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The investigation into the dacoity at industrialist Santosh Ladda's bungalow has uncovered that Yogesh Hajbe, one of the detained suspects, was previously identified in a register of unlawful business operators. This list was presented by Maharashtra legislative council's Leader of Opposition (LoP) Ambadas Danve during the assembly session in 2023. Danve's presentation included detailed information about operators from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city, their business types, and alleged police payoffs. Hajbe (31) has previous records of bootlegging activities. He subsequently expanded his illegal operations to include managing lodges and got involved in flesh trade. Danve's allegations suggested that the city police were collecting Rs 60 lakh monthly from various illegal enterprises. He specifically mentioned crime branch inspector Sandeep Gurme during the session and called for a thorough investigation, causing significant disturbance within police ranks. Inspector supervising Ladda probe was named by Danve in 2023 The matter has since received little attention from senior police officers or politicians. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Где два мира сливаются воедино SAUDI Забронировать Undo The current dacoity investigation is being supervised by inspector Gurme. Recent transfer orders from the Director General of Police's office have reassigned inspector Gurme to the Police Training School (PTS), Jalna. However, he is yet to be relieved from his current position due to the ongoing Ladda case investigation. Police commissioner Pravin Pawar, who assumed office in June 2024, claimed unfamiliarity with the LoP's previous assembly session allegations. "Currently, the primary focus is on the ongoing investigation in the dacoity case. We will definitely look into whether any police personnel were in touch with the accused named in the dacoity case, and if we find any connection, we will definitely initiate action," he said.

To avenge insult, Sambhajinagar industrialist Ladda's close friend & employee tipped off dacoits about valuables and cash at his bungalow: Police

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Police investigations revealed a significant development in the armed dacoity case at industrialist Santosh Ladda's residence on May 15. Police said Balasaheb Ingole (46), Ladda's trusted employee and friend of 20 years, provided crucial information about valuables and cash at the bungalow, along with details of Ladda's USA trip for his son's convocation ceremony, seeking revenge for a perceived insult. He was arrested on Saturday. Police have caught 10 suspects: Yogesh Hajbe (31) from Wadgaon Kolhati, Suresh alias Suryakant Gangne (45) from Beed, Syed Azharuddin (37) from Ranjangaon, Sohel Shaikh (22) from Beed, and Mahendra Bidve (38) from Sajapur. Amol Khotkar, a primary orchestrator of the dacoity, died in an encounter between Monday and Tuesday. The court granted police custody for these suspects until June 10. Additional arrests included Devidas Shinde (45) from Wadgaon Kolhati on Friday, followed by Ingole, Mahesh Gorade (26), Ganesh Gorade (22), and Ajinath Jadhav (23) on Saturday. These individuals remain in police custody until June 6. The perpetrators absconded with 5.5 kg of gold, 32 kg of silver, and Rs 70,000 in cash. The crime branch and MIDC Waluj police teams recovered only 32gm of gold jewellery. Police commissioner Pravin Pawar told TOI, "We were able to trace the reverse linkage in this case and found that to avenge an 'insult' by Ladda, Ingole tipped off the criminals on Ladda's foreign tour and the large amount of valuables and cash stashed in the bungalow." Investigations showed that Ingole joined Ladda's manufacturing unit in 2006, becoming both an employee and confidant, assisting with household matters. This position granted him extensive knowledge and access to the household. Deputy commissioner of police (Crime) Prashant Swami said Ladda had reprimanded Ingole in Dec 2024 for alleged inappropriate behaviour while intoxicated. "Ingole took this insult to heart and decided to teach Ladda a lesson, and found the opportunity when the Ladda family planned a tour to the USA from May 7 to 22," said Swami. Further investigation revealed that Ingole shared information with Ajinath Jadhav, who informed Ganesh Gorade, an employee at Mahesh Gorade's medical store. Mahesh relayed this to Devidas Shinde, who contacted Yogesh Hajbe, a known criminal. Hajbe assembled the group, including Khotkar, at his lodge to plan the armed dacoity. Shinde and Hajbe conducted surveillance of the bungalow. Police have now seized both the moped and the car used in the crime.

Supreme Court asks why permanent mechanism cannot be put in place to conduct CLAT like NEET

The Supreme Court on Wednesday (May 7, 2025), expressing strong displeasure at 'error-riddled questions' in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2025, voiced the need for a 'permanent mechanism' for conducting the annual law entrance examination, similar to the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET) for medical admissions. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts NEET, while CLAT, a national-level entrance exam for undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes offered by 24 National Law Universities (NLUs), is currently organised by the Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLU), with member universities conducting it on a rotational basis. The questions are purportedly framed by senior academicians in the legal field. 'But is this the sort of Consortium you have? With all these learned Vice-Chancellors sitting together, calling themselves academicians of the highest repute… Why don't you have a permanent mechanism like in the NEET? CLAT involves the career aspirations of lakhs of students across the country,' a Bench of Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice A.G. Masih observed. The court conveyed its anguish at the 'casual manner' in which the CNLU had framed questions for CLAT 2025. Pointing to a question regarding responsibility for protecting natural resources, Justice Gavai said the suggested answer, that the state held sole responsibility, was 'totally wrong.' 'It is the state as well as the citizens. We have said this in several of our judgments,' the judge noted. The Supreme Court issued notice to the Union Ministry of Education (formerly Ministry of Human Resource Development) regarding the persistent for years problems affecting CLAT. The Bench highlighted that neither the Centre nor the Bar Council of India (BCI) had implemented remedial measures following a 2018 Supreme Court judgment that had flagged numerous issues with CLAT. Among noted errors were included inadequate arrangements, the yearly rotation of monitoring responsibilities among different universities, and excessive examination fees. The court in 2018 had directed the Centre to appoint a committee to investigate these issues and recommend corrective actions, including potential penal measures against CLAT organisers. The current legal dispute had delayed the CLAT 2025 counselling process, originally scheduled to commence on December 9, 2024. The hearing stemmed from a petition by Siddhi Sandeep Ladda, who secured All India Rank 22 with Set A paper of the exam. Ms. Ladda challenged a Delhi High Court order of April 23, 2025, which had directed a revision and republication of the CLAT merit list within four weeks due to erroneous questions and answer keys. Ms. Ladda contended that the High Court's order would disrupt the level playing field, as students who received other exam sets might be unfairly awarded grace marks. During the hearing, the Justice Gavai Bench itself identified six erroneous questions in the CLAT 2025 paper. The apex court subsequently awarded marks to students for attempts at certain questions while deleting others. Furthermore, the court took suo motu cognisance of a petition filed by the late legal academician, Professor Shamnad Basheer. Prof. Basheer had consistently highlighted recurrent mistakes in CLAT question papers and had advocated for an 'independent, professional and permanent body' to conduct the examination. The Supreme Court scheduled the next hearing in the matter for Friday, May 9, 2025.
