Former Lady Vol named assistant basketball coach at Central Michigan
Former Lady Vol named assistant basketball coach at Central Michigan Central Michigan hired former Lady Vol Jordan Walker as an assistant coach. "I'm excited to welcome Jordan to our program," Central Michigan head coach Kristin Haynie said. "I love how she sees the game, our guards are in great hands. They'll benefit not only from her experience as an elite player, but also from her ability to teach and break the game down. "What makes her truly special is that she cares first about helping our players grow into confident, successful young women." Walker played for the Lady Vols from 2020-23 under head coach Kellie Harper after transferring from Western Michigan. As a three-year starter at Tennessee, she helped the Lady Vols make three NCAA Tournament appearances and advancing to the Sweet 16 two times. Walker recorded 291 assists in three seasons. Former Lady Vol leads Ole Miss to SEC Tournament win against Florida No. 11 seed Ole Miss (37-16) defeated No. 6 seed Florida (43-14), 6-3 in eight innings, Wednesday in the second round of the 2025 SEC Tournament at Jack Turner Field in Athens, Georgia. Former Lady Vol and senior right fielder Lair Beautae went 2-for-4 and recorded one run for Ole Miss. She played for Tennessee from 2022-23 before transferring to Houston in 2024. While at Tennessee, Beautae played in 93 games, including 88 starts. She recorded a .293 batting average and totaled 44 hits, 33 RBIs and nine doubles as a freshman. During her sophomore campaign for the Lady Vols, Beautae totaled four home runs, 29 RBIs and 21 runs. She totaled a career-high six RBIs against Mercer on April 6, 2023. Beautae also hit a grand slam in Tennessee's, 7-6, victory over Alabama on May 12, 2023. She helped the Lady Vols win two SEC regular-season championships and claim a SEC Tournament title in 2023. In 2025 at Ole Miss, Beautae has appeared in 31 games, including 29 starts. She has recorded a .357 batting average, two home runs, 20 RBIs, nine doubles and one triple. Ole Miss will next play in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals Thursday against No. 3 seed Texas, First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. EDT. SEC Network will televise the contest. Wisconsin basketball hires former Lady Vol as assistant coach Former Lady Vol Ariel Massengale will serve as an assistant women's basketball coach at Wisconsin. Massengale previously served as an assistant coach at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (2021-25) and Lipscomb (2019-21) after beginning her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Ole Miss (2017-19). She played for the Lady Vols from 2011-15 under head coaches Pat Summitt and Holly Warlick. While at Tennessee, Massengale led the Lady Vols to four NCAA Tournament appearances and was a four-year starter. She appeared in 122 games, totaling 1,161 points. Massengale, who averaged 9.5 points, 4.2 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game, was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2012. The former Lady Vol was selected in the third round of the 2015 WNBA draft (No. 29 overall) by Atlanta. After missing the 2015 season due to injury, Massengale made her professional debut with the Dream in 2016. She later played professionally in Finland and was released after 12 games. During her high school career, Massengale was a three-time state champion, a WCBA All-America performer and a McDonald's All-American. She was also named Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year. While playing for USA Basketball, Massengale won gold medals in the World University Games (2013), FIBA U-19 World Cup (2011), FIBA U-17 World Cup (2010) and FIBA Americas U-16 Championships (2009). Karlyn Pickens records fastest pitch in softball history for Lady Vols
No. 7 Tennessee (27-6, 3-3 SEC) won the series finale against No. 14 Arkansas (23-7, 3-6 SEC), 3-2, at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium. Junior pitcher Karlyn Pickens made history for the Lady Vols on Monday against Arkansas. Advertisement In the sixth inning, Pickens recorded the fastest pitch in softball history at 78 mph, breaking a previous record of 77 mph. Former Lady Vol Monica Abbott held the previous record for the fastest pitch in softball history. Abbott previously set the record in 2012 as a professional with the Chicago Bandits and was also matched by Pickens earlier during the 2025 regular season. Pickens (11-4) pitched 4.1 innings of relief against the Razorbacks. She recorded six strikeouts, while not allowing a hit, run or walk. She totaled 56 pitches, including 33 strikes, against 16 batters to earn her 11th win in 2025. Abbott played for Tennessee from 2004-07, pitching 23 no-hitters and six perfect games during her collegiate career. Lady Vol guard medically retires from basketball Tennessee junior Edie Darby announced she will medical retire from basketball. The 5-foot-7 guard played for the Lady Vols from 2022-24. Darby appeared in 31 games and totaled 35 points, 18 rebounds, 10 assists and eight steals at Tennessee. "This game has given me so much," Darby said. "It's shaped me, challenged me and given me opportunities I will never take for granted. After a lot of prayer and listening to my body, I have made the decision to medically retire from basketball. It's a decision I never thought or wanted to make, but it is rooted in faith and trust in the Lord's plan for what is next." Darby is from Greenfield High School in Greenfield, Tennessee. She scored 1,000 career points by her junior season and finished with 1,603 points. The coronavirus pandemic ended Greenfield's 34-0 season early in 2020.
