LCG encourages residents to submit voluntary storm damage reports

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — The Lafayette Consolidated Government is urging residents and business owners affected by the flood on April 24 to submit a voluntary storm damage report, with an emphasis on completing it promptly. LCG Chief of Staff, Christina Dayries, explained the advantages of completing and submitting the online report. The Storm Damage Report is voluntary and does not mean you will get federal disaster relief. The survey helps the state determine how each area is doing and what kind of help residents in those areas might be eligible for. was opened online after April 24 by the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. Dayries states that local reports submitted through the system will be shared with the state and FEMA. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now 'You can upload pictures, tell us the details of your data, and enter the GPS coordinates as well,' Dayries said. Dayries explained that the state will use technology to view areas or conduct walking tours to validate the information provided. 'A flooding event that has come up, such as four or five feet in your home. So, we're able to validate that at the local and state level, and that helps us get either a state declaration and/or federal declaration and potentially available resources,' Dayries said. Not all events reach that threshold. Sometimes, the information is shared with volunteer agencies that provide support to help people get back on their feet. 'We share that with our volunteer organization, and they may supply cleaning supplies, and they help them muck and gut,' Dayries said. However, remember that submitting a report of damage does not automatically guarantee disaster relief. To report April 24 storm damage website: Damage LA Gov.
