OKANA's outdoor waterpark is now open to the public: Things to do, how to buy a day pass
It's been three months since Oklahoma City's newest attraction opened its doors, and another portion is ready to debut to the public. The outdoor portion of the OKANA Resort and Indoor Waterpark, known as OKANA Beach, is opening to day-pass visitors Saturday, May 24. The outdoor waterpark has been open to resort guests since May 17. 'The community response has been incredible since we opened our doors,' said Ken Leone, managing director of OKANA. 'We're seeing families drive in from across the region because there truly isn't anything like OKANA in Oklahoma or the surrounding states … The enthusiasm from locals has been particularly rewarding, as they're seeing their hometown become a premier tourist destination." From a white sand beach to water slides, an adults-only tanning pool to an inflatable obstacle course, there's something for everyone at OKANA Beach. Here's everything you need to know about how to visit and what to expect. OKANA Beach, the outdoor waterpark featured at OKANA, opens to day-pass holders on Saturday, May 24. The Memorial Day Weekend Bash will be complete with a live DJ, mermaids, giant fan dancers, stilt walkers, face painters, balloon artists, jugglers, hula hoop performers and a drone show to end the night. It will also kick off Saturdays at the Lagoon, a series of events every Saturday from June to August featuring rotating themes, live music, interactive games and curated culinary offerings. The waterpark will remain open through Labor Day. There are a range of ways to keep the entire family occupied at this outdoor waterpark, including a white sand beach, 36 private cabanas and more: The Drop-off: Two water slides twist and turn before dropping off into a deep water pool. Bounce Bay: Jump, climb and splash through this overwater obstacle course. Summit Splash: Get the thrill of a cliff dive by plunging from a platform into the water below. The Lagoon: Enter the fourth-largest pool in the nation from the white sand beach. Zip & Dip: Glide across a zipline before jumping into the water. Cabana Cove: A shallow, adults-only tanning pool exclusively for those 21 and over. Hungry and thirsty from all the fun? Refuel at the Waterbyrd restaurant and grab drinks form Okasis, the resort's swim-up bar. Waterpark tickets are included for all resort guests, but anyone can purchase a day or evening pass to explore the indoor and/or outdoor waterparks at OKANA. Here are the rates: OKANA outdoor day pass: $49.99 for access to the outdoor waterpark from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. OKANA indoor/outdoor day pass: $69.99 for access to both the outdoor and indoor waterparks. Lagoon pillow review: I took a quiz that matches you with the best pillow for your needs, and now I finally sleep through the night
I'm always on the quest to get the best night's sleep. After months of doubling up worn-out generic pillows, I was on the lookout for a nice, quality plush pillow. I came across Lagoon Sleep and its pillow quiz that matches you with the best pillow based on your sleeping habits. Once I completed the quiz, Lagoon sent me a pillow as an editorial review sample, and after a month of testing, I haven't looked back at my generic pillows. Choosing a pillow The seven-question pillow quiz asked about issues I face while sleeping, my body type, how firm or soft I desire my pillow to be, and my sleep style. Being a side sleeper who constantly tosses and turns due to being a hot sleeper, Lagoon recommended Otter pillow, which is perfect for side and versatile sleepers. It is also a fully adjustable cooling pillow. Lagoon has five different pillows that are supposed to fit any sleep style. If your recommended pillow doesn't live up to your expectations, the company has a try-before-you-buy program that allows you to test the pillow for 100 nights. The quiz also recommended a runner-up pillow, the Fox, in case the Otter wasn't a good fit for me. Our review of the Lagoon Pillow When I first opened my Lagoon pillow, I was a bit confused seeing that the pillow came rolled and flattened in plastic packaging. After following their detailed unboxing instructions, I unrolled my Otter pillow and was able to fluff and adjust it to my liking. When I started fluffing out my pillow, I was impressed by its combination of softness and firm support. The Otter is filled with shredded gel-infused memory foam that can be removed for a flatter pillow or added for a higher double-stacked feel. The pillow comes zipped inside a white quilted pillow cover made of bamboo and polyester. I slept on it without a pillowcase at first. But after a few nights, the cover became noticeably dirty with makeup stains. I was able to easily unzip and toss it in the washing machine and it came out like new. Although the quilted pillow cover is washing-machine friendly, Lagoon recommends spot cleaning the inner cover for stains. If you need to wash it, only wash the inner cover once a year and safety pin the zipper to secure the shredded memory foam. All of Lagoon's pillows are made from hypoallergenic recycled and natural materials. Being a person who loves to double their pillows, I appreciate the pillow's adjustable fill design that allows me to get the right height and comfort for my head and neck. I usually toss and turn at night and am constantly turning on my fan because I sweat in my sleep. The Otter lived up to its cooling pillow claims. After sleeping on it for the first few nights, I realized that I was finally comfortable and cool the entire night. Lagoon offers a 100-night trial and a five-year warranty for its pillows. If you're not a fan of your pillow, Lagoon will send you a prepaid label for its return. Plus, the warranty covers any manufacturing issues or flaws for five years. What are your alternatives? While Lagoon's Otter Pillow is an excellent cooling pillow, we still prefer the Coop Home Goods The Eden+ Adjustable Pillow. The top pick in our best cooling pillow guide, the Eden+ is one of the coolest pillows we've ever used. It's comparable in price to the Otter, so I'd recommend checking it out. If you suffer from neck pain, you'll want to check out our guide to the best pillows for neck pain. Our top pick, the Layla Kapok Pillow, is also cooling and fully adjustable. For more recommendations, read our best pillows guide and our best pillows for side sleepers guide. The bottom line I'm not sure if it's because the Lagoon Otter pillow is the first higher-end pillow I've tried, but it is definitely the best pillow I've ever slept on. If you're a hot, restless sleeper like I am, this pillow may be just what you need. I sleep better and no longer wake up throughout the night to turn on my fan or grab more pillows for extra comfort.

Lagoon encourages students in science with Physics Day at the park
FARMINGTON — High school and middle school students from across the state arrived at Lagoon Friday to learn more about physics. To prepare for the trip, each student works on some type of project in class and presents it fair-style at the amusement park. Physics Day has been going on for over 35 years, and more students participate each year. What began as a way to get students involved in science, physics and technology has evolved to become a favorite student and faculty activity. 'It's not a hard sell,' Utah State University physics department representative JR Dennison laughed. 'The students come up with their projects all by themselves. … A lot of them spend weeks working doing this. They learn a whole heck of a lot.' Multiple events happen throughout the day, including the ride presentation. Each student team was tasked with making a mockup of a potential Lagoon ride. The tricky part came in figuring out the science of how the ride would work in reality. Students spent weeks working on dioramas — painting, decorating, thinking of themes and most of all, figuring out the logistics of how it could work. George De St. Jeor and Matea Peterson from West Point Junior High School created a ride inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's 'Starry Night' painting. The girls spent hours researching and creating their final project. 'We both really love art and so we wanted to do a story-themed ride,' De St. Jeor said. 'We had to make sure that it had enough inertia and friction to work in the real world.' Peterson joked, 'It was very hard, and it is only made out of paper. I'm sure in real life it would be even worse.' The kids also had the unique opportunity to build a robot and participate in a robot sumo wrestling competition. Students built, programmed, and ran the robots to find the champion. 'A guy named Jeff, who works at the Air Force, came and helped us. From experience, we learned how to make this,' said one bot-fighting student, Emmyr Suarez. 'We can knock down other robots.' One of the main events allowed students to take an egg-drop device on the sky-ride and drop it from the highest point on the ride. Students went one after another, dropping eggs as they rode along the track. Other students helped gather the machines on the ground to determine whose egg survived. In addition to the young students, professionals in the field and college students presented their work with interactive presentations and demonstrations. Ethan Wayland, a current USU student, showcased his team's work on making satellites. 'The last satellite we made was only 10 centimeters, which is really small,' Wayland said. 'I love coming to these kinds of events and talking to kids. Especially with a range of ages, it is fun talking to elementary and high school kids. A lot of them are interested in space, so it's cool to talk with them and connect about it.' The day at the park aims to promote careers in STEM and encourages students to engage in hands-on learning. 'The critical thinking of physics is learning to look at something and think your way through it,' Dennison said. 'It's absolutely essential in every direction you can take in life.'
