Grant awarded to Warren business for new machinery
WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — A Warren business will use a $50,000 grant from a state organization to purchase new machinery that will create three new jobs. REM Electronics Supply Company was approved for a $50,000 Small Business Grant from JobsOhio, according to Lake to River, a new partnership network that includes Trumbull, Mahoning, Ashtabula and Columbiana counties. REM plans to use the money to buy state-of-the-art equipment that will expand its work and add three new jobs. The investment will also contribute to the business's continued growth, according to Lake to River. 'This funding helps us stay ahead of the curve, remain competitive, and provide new job opportunities in Warren,' said REM President Jan Dyer. Lake to River and JobsOhio announced the partnership with the surrounding counties in 2024 to support economic growth by assisting businesses with many things, such as guidance in the grant application process, among other services. Final funding secured for new local aviation training center
VIENNA, Ohio (WKBN) – A new aviation education center will be constructed at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport thanks to the final funding that has been secured for the project. A news release from JobsOhio and Lake to River states that a $1 million JobsOhio Site Inventory Program (OSIP) Grant allows the $5.5 million project to move from planning to the design and construction phase. The Port Authority worked closely with Lake to River, the local JobsOhio network partner, to secure the OSIP grant. 'This JobsOhio grant is the final puzzle piece that allows us to transform the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport into a hub for aviation talent, ensuring our region plays a vital role in meeting the national demand for skilled pilots and mechanics,' said Anthony Trevena, executive director of the Western Reserve Port Authority in a statement. The YNG Aviation Education Center is expected to provide new career pathways in the region to the aviation industry. The 18,000-square-foot building will house an expansion of the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics (PIA) to establish the YNG Flight School. The education center will be built to accommodate training for new technology, such as advanced air mobility (AAM) and pilot training for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOLs) aircraft, according to the release. Other funding sources include the U.S. Economic Development Administration, the State of Ohio (capital bill), the State of Ohio Department of Development, and the Trumbull County Commissioners, with additional support from Eastgate Regional Council of Governments and PIA.
