On 11th anniversary, Modi government pitches its work at ‘Amrit generation' of youth

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its leaders marked 11 years of the Narendra Modi government with programmes showcasing the development work undertaken by the Centre. Financial inclusion through Jan Dhan accounts, investments in roads and airports, health insurance, and digital infrastructure projects were listed as among the government's efforts for the common people, especially the younger generations. A presentation during a media interaction with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday (June 11, 2025) demonstrated the work undertaken by the Centre. A particularly interesting element in a video presented alongside was the coinage of the term 'Amrit generation' for those who had been infants or children in 2014 when Mr. Modi first came to power, and are now teens or young adults entering higher education or even the job market. Mr. Modi had been at the forefront of promoting the 'neo-middle class', which had formed a major chunk of the BJP's support base from 2014 onwards, and the term 'Amrit generation', seems to be another such coinage. The video made special mention of Atal tinkering labs, the New Education Policy, start-up ecosystems, self-reliance in terms of defence manufacturing, Lakhpati and drone didis, and direct benefit transfer schemes for subsidies as measures that would mostly benefit the 'Amrit generation', rather than those who were young before 2014. The phraseology and the enumeration of the government's work is an effort to position Mr. Modi's tenure as one that has served as a launch pad for the prosperity of a generation that came of age in 'Amrit Kaal' or the 75th year of India's independence, and the BJP is looking at support from this new cohort. The third iteration of the Modi government completed a year on June 9.
