Owner and buffalo Awang to part after five years
AFTER five years of caring for a 650kg buffalo named Awang, owner Muhammad Faris Aiman in Kuantan is selling it for RM12,000, Harian Metro reported. He explained that he was doing so not because of financial problems but that he had come to realise it was time to let go. 'I have had offers in the past but I wasn't ready to sell it then,' said Muhammad Faris, 25. He said Awang was gifted to him by his father when the buffalo was just one year old. The buyer, he said, wanted to donate Awang to a madrasah for a sacrificial ritual. For Hari Raya Haji this year, he said he had sold 300 cows so far. > Mila Mohsin, the daughter of the late actor Hani Mohsin, is all set to have an acting career, Harian Metro reported. She will appear in the movie Laknat, which premieres on June 5. 'My mother has given me her blessing to be involved in films,' said Mila, 31, referring to Puan Sri Tiara Jacquelina. Mila, who is also a jujitsu trainee, said she was fortunate to have had the chance to learn from her parents. > The venue of the comeback concert by nasyid group Inteam has been switched to a bigger place in view of the overwhelming reception from their fans, Berita Harian reported. This came about after the tickets, which went on sale on May 23, were taken up within two hours. The venue was changed from Zepp Kuala Lumpur to Idea Live Arena in Petaling Jaya that could accommodate about 5,000 fans. Konsert Kasih Kekasih 25 Tahun Inteam, originally slated for Sept 27, was also pushed a day later. 'We decided to change the date and the location after hearing the feedback from our fans,' said Inteam member Mohd Syahril Abdul Khalid. #SHOWBIZ: Mila Mohsin set to follow parents' footsteps in acting
KUALA LUMPUR: Following in the esteemed footsteps of her late father, Hani Mohsin Hanafi, and her mother, Puan Sri Tiara Jacquelina, actress and jiu-jitsu instructor Mila Mohsin, 31, is poised to make her mark in the entertainment industry. Mila, whose full name is Hani Karmila Hani Mohsin, shared that her mother, the acclaimed producer and star of Puteri Gunung Ledang The Movie, has given her blessing for Mila to pursue acting. This exciting new chapter begins with the film Laknat, set to premiere on June 5. "Coincidentally, Saw Teong Hin, the director of Laknat, contacted me and without hesitation, I agreed to join the cast," Mila revealed at a recent preview of the movie at GSC Mid Valley Megamall. Having made her acting debut last year in Melur The Musical at the Petaling Jaya Performing Arts Centre (PJPAC), Mila expressed immense gratitude for having learned the fundamentals of acting directly from her parents. "Every step I take, they are in my heart and soul. If the film is successful, I'll be very grateful and thankful to them," she said. Mila further emphasised her appreciation for compelling narratives, whether in mainstream or independent productions. While comparisons to her illustrious parents are inevitable, Mila's mother has encouraged her to "be herself" and disregard any naysayers. "I'm determined to be my own person in showbiz. I feel blessed to have parents who worked hard to excel in showbiz, and they are my role models who have set the benchmark high," Mila said, highlighting her ambition to forge her unique path. Mila also draws inspiration from the versatile actor Bront Palarae, commending his ability to elevate Malaysia's cinematic presence globally through his roles in Indonesian productions and international award-winning films. "Bront Palarae is multi-talented, one of our finest actors, who has put our movie industry on the global map," she said.

Aeril Zafrel is more careful about social media presence
28 May - Although he used to be quite active on TikTok, Aeril Zafrel recently said that he has now decided to be more wary about the kind of content he makes for the sake of his children. The 38-year-old actor, who is the father of four, said that he would always make sure to not make any content that has negative connotation even if it can increase the number of views on social media. "I'm worried that my children would be the ones affected by that kind of content," he said. Speaking to the media at the premiere of the new movie, "Laknat", Aeril said that he has also reduced his appearance online due to his age. "I don't have the same energy like in the past. I understand, there are people who make up stories in order to increase views and it has now become a trend. But please avoid from doing such a thing," he said. #SHOWBIZ: Saw to cut a swathe with horror genre in 'Laknat'
LIKEABLE. Composed. Charming. You would not associate this person with an interest in freaky scares, and things that go bump in the night. Yet, award-winning producer and director Saw Teong Hin is all set to premiere his first horror movie, 'Laknat', next month. "For me, what is fascinating about the horror genre is how people behave when confronted with something like primal fear. "Do they lose it or keep it together? Behave badly or do the right thing?," he says during a late-night chat with NST. 'Laknat' tells the story of a man who goes off the rails when his sister meets a violent death. He turns to the dark arts for vengeance, explains the 63-year-old Penang native known for directing the Malay language epic fantasy film 'Puteri Gunung Ledang' and 'You Mean the World to Me', the first Malaysian production filmed entirely in Hokkien. "I have been looking for a solid horror script for a while. However, I did not come across any that I felt I could do something with. Then, one day, I was approached by an old collaborator with the 'Laknat' script. "With 'Laknat', I found an interesting way to tell a horror story in a genre that has already been so heavily mined." The movie, set for a June 5 opening, stars a talented ensemble cast that includes Aeril Zafrel, Puteri Balqis, Jalik Hamid, Amerul Affendi and Umie Aida, among others. There were some challenging scenes to shoot, he says. "The scenes are mainly set at night, and shooting through the night for long periods is particularly weary. Also, night shoots offer shorter productive hours. It is a challenge, so we had to be really efficient, focused and thorough with our shoots." He adds that one particularly challenging scene involved young actress Puteri Balqis at a river. "Shooting at the river at 4am with a large crowd was one challenging scene, particularly for Puteri Balqis, who had to be immersed in the cold river water. She was a real trouper." Saw shot 'Laknat' mainly in Banting, Selangor and Sungkai, Perak. "These were carming locations with friendly, helpful locals. They were cooperative and turned up in force to help as extras on the set. "We stayed with the community instead of travelling up and down from Kuala Lumpur and other places for the shoots. The food we catered was lovely." So, one wonders, did any odd things take place during the filming on site? "During the shoot, aside from the occasional inexplicable chills, smells and sounds, a member of the crew fainted during a night shoot, which was worrying. Fortunately we had both first aid and an ustaz on set for any eventuality." Saw feels 'Laknat' will appeal to Malaysians because of the strong cast and the solid storytelling. "The cast are good actors who well represent their generation, and many of us will appreciate their talent. I also feel the way the story in 'Laknat' is told is intriguing," he says confidently. While 'Laknat' awaits moviegoers, Saw himself is looking for his next project. "I never know what's next. I tend to alternate between film and theatre, then film and theatre. I like both. One informs the other.
