Lanark Lanimers 2025: Lord Cornet Edward takes up role
Edward Pringle was installed in the traditional role at the beginning of Lanimer week, while new Queen Maisey Talbot will be crowned on Lanimer day on Thursday, June 12 Lanimer week is in full swing – with Lanark's new Lord Cornet being officially installed earlier this week and excitement now building ahead of the crowning of the Lanimer Queen. The town's annual week of celebrations officially began with the Kirkin' of the Lord Cornet service at St Nicholas church on Sunday, followed by new Lord Cornet Edward Pringle officially taking up his role at the Shifting of the Standard ceremony on Monday's traditional Marches night. He received his sash of office from Catherine McClymont, the Clydesdale West councillor, following the annual perambulation of the marches which was attended by 700 people who joined in with the centuries-old task of checking the royal burgh's boundary stones. Edward told Lanarkshire Live ahead of the ceremony: 'I am looking forward to Lanimer week with a tremendous amount of excitement. I am sure it will be a wonderful week and I hope the whole community will have a wonderful time celebrating our ancient traditions. Happy Lanimers!' The traditional Kirkin' ceremony was attended by ex-Lord Cornets, community representatives including Clydesdale MSP Mairi McAllan, and Lanimer court members and principals including Queen elect Maisey Talbot. Lanark Grammar pupil Maisey will be crowned on Lanimer Day this Thursday, June 12, as huge crowds of thousands of local residents and visitors gather for the much-anticipated colourful state procession and the historic crowning ceremony under the statue of William Wallace. She will be crowned by May Dickman in the focal point of the day's festivities, which will also include music and a family fun zone at Castlebank Park, and then the traditional evening procession and spectacular at the cross including a massed pipe band procession. Lanimer week concludes with the Lanimer Queen's reception on Friday and the Lord Cornet's Lanimer ball takes place on Saturday evening. * Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire. Lanark community welcomes new Lanimer workshop
Lanimer Queen Lacey Steele and Queen-Elect Maisey Talbot cut a ribbon at the opening ceremony of the new facility. Preparations for Lanark's annual Lanimer celebrations are motoring ahead thanks to the opening of a community workshop and committee hub. The building at Lanark Moor Country Park will provide a new home for a number of procession entrants to construct their Lanimer lorries ahead of the town's landmark week of celebrations in June. Lanimer Queen Lacey Steele and Queen-Elect Maisey Talbot carried out the official opening, cutting a ribbon to welcome community members to the new space and planting a birch tree in the grounds. Dozens of community members attended the workshop for the opening of the new facility, led by Lanimer committee chair Gordon Gray and Lord Cornet-Elect Edward Pringle. The workshop leased by the Lanimer organisers gives space for community groups to prepare their elaborately-decorated lorries, as well as housing other projects and becoming an important central hub. Lanimer committee representatives said: 'This fabulous building has been constructed by South Lanarkshire Council and has now been leased to the committee to be a new hub for all our Lanimer activity. 'It will also be a new home for a number of our Lanimer entrants to construct their fabulous lorries, as well as a space for other groups to work on community projects – we can't wait to see what wonderful lorries will be constructed this year! 'The Lanimer committee would like to thank South Lanarkshire Council for their tireless efforts delivering this fantastic facility, it will be a real asset for our future Lanimer celebrations.' Lanimer week 2025 begins on Sunday, June 8, with the kirkin' of the Lord Cornet-Elect, the perambulation of the marches and shifting of the standard taking place the following day, then the Lanimer ride-out on June 10. Lanimer Day is on Thursday, June 12, with the traditional procession and crowning of Queen Maisey outside St Nicholas' church. The week of celebrations then concludes with children's treats and the Lanimer Queen's reception the following day, and then the Lanimer ball on Saturday, June 14. Queen-Elect Maisey's champion will be fellow Lanark Grammar pupil Ajay Shearer and she will be crowned on the day by May Dickman, while Lord Cornet-elect Edward will receive his sash of office from Clydesdale councillor Catherine McClymont.
