Acer's ultra-portable Predator Triton 14 AI gaming laptop could be the coolest thing at Computex

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Intel's Core Ultra 200V Lunar Lake chipsets were announced last year for ultrathin and light systems. They are intended for use mostly in AI PCs and the MSI Claw 8 AI+ handheld. These mobile processors weren't expected ever to hit the mainstream gaming laptop market, and Laptop Mag was almost certain you couldn't connect a discrete GPU to the chip. But as they say, life finds a way. Acer has managed to connect a discrete Nvidia RTX 50-series gaming GPU to Intel's Lunar Lake to create the Triton 14 AI ultra-portable gaming laptop. The ultra-slim, ultra-light Triton 14 AI is intended for gaming and content creation, and based on Laptop Mag's recent hands-on demo, it just might be the coolest thing announced for Computex in Taipei next week. But other than an interesting chip combo, what makes the Triton 14 AI so unique? Price: €2,999 starting CPU: Up to Intel Core Ultra 9 288V GPU: Up to Nvidia RTX 5070 Memory: Up to 32GB Storage: Up to 2TB Display: 14.5-inch, 2880 x 1800, 120Hz OLED Battery: TBD Size: 0.68 inches thick Weight: 3.52 pounds The Triton 14 AI is a slim laptop, measuring just 0.68 inches thick. While not the thinnest laptop we've ever seen with a discrete GPU under the hood, it is incredibly slim for a 14-inch laptop. And at just 3.52 pounds, it'll fit in just about any backpack or laptop bag you own, making it super portable. Acer managed to slim down the Triton 14 to just 0.68 inches thanks to a combination of ultra-thin sixth-gen AeroBlade fans, a graphene thermal interface, and a new vapor chamber to keep the Triton slim and cool under pressure. Acer has opted for a fun, steel blue colorway on the Triton 14 AI, which sets it apart from the other black and silver gaming laptops on the market. The Triton 14 AI has an anti-fingerprint coating to keep it looking sleek even after hours of use. Acer has packed a 76Whr battery in the Triton 14 AI. Because Intel's Core Ultra 200V Lunar Lake chips are super power efficient, the Triton should have good battery life when surfing the web or even when gaming. While we expect battery life to take a bit of a hit due to the discrete Nvidia GPU and OLED display panel, the Triton 14 AI could easily last for 8+ hours of web surfing on battery thanks to its ultra-efficient CPU. We have already seen the benefits of an AI PC chip powering a gaming laptop this year, thanks to the Razer Blade 16 (2025). As the Triton 14 AI is a similar combo, just with an Intel CPU instead, it could end up nipping the Asus TUF Gaming A14 off our list as the gaming laptop with the best battery life. Acer has outfitted the Triton 14 AI with a 14.5-inch, 2880 x 1800, 120Hz OLED panel rated for 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut and sporting Calman verification. From what we've seen so far, this display looks great and has the potential to be a great tool for content creators. We saw a similar display on the Acer Swift X 14 (2024) last year. While our lab testing couldn't verify the 100% DCI-P3 rating, the display looked crisp and gorgeous in our hands-on testing. If Acer is using the same display or a similar OLED panel on the Triton 14 AI, it's guaranteed to be a great option for content creators or for gamers who really want an immersive, cinematic gaming experience. Intel's Lunar Lake platform is not the beefiest Intel CPU out there, that would have to go to the Core Ultra 200HX Arrow Lake chipset. However, Lunar Lake is certainly powerful enough to handle web browsing, spreadsheet management, video calls, and some light Photoshop work without breaking a sweat. The Lunar Lake integrated GPU is also pretty good for gaming in 1080p at Medium settings. Combined with a discrete Nvidia RTX 50-series GPU, and it should get even better graphics power for a smoother gaming experience. While we haven't reviewed an RTX 5070 laptop just yet, if it's anything like the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 laptops, it'll have some decent silicon power and all the advantages of Nvidia's new DLSS 4 technology to provide smooth, high framerates in even the most demanding games. Acer will launch the Triton 14 AI in July in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, with a starting price of €2,999. Due to constantly shifting US foreign tariffs, Acer has not yet published pricing or release dates for North America. But, when the Triton 14 AI becomes available in the US, you can bet we'll be angling to get it into our labs and put this Lunar Lake/Nvidia hybrid to the test. Acer responds to tariff question about new Aspire laptops

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Acer on Friday unveiled an impressive suite of six new Aspire laptops, but an Acer rep tells Laptop Mag that tariffs are among the reasons why they haven't been priced or made available in the United States yet. Six new AI PCs — all capable of running the generative AI service Microsoft CoPilot+ — made their debut ahead of Computex, the annual tech industry summit in Taipei that starts next week. "We are refraining from disclosing U.S./North American pricing for future products." An Acer rep to Laptop Mag The Aspire range has long been recognized as filled with everyday-quality get-it-done devices. The new laptops, made of lightweight aluminum and boasting powerful processors, come in the popular 14" and 16" sizes. They will be available in Europe and Australia starting in June. When asked if tariffs had any role in the delay of these laptops arriving in the US and their prices, an Acer rep told Laptop Mag on Friday: 'The pricing impact of the tariffs will vary based on the country where each product is manufactured, the date the product arrives in the U.S., ongoing negotiations with major retailers as well as commercial and education customers, and various other factors. "Due to this, we are refraining from disclosing U.S./North American pricing for future products and instead, will announce pricing, availability, and configurations closer to market availability in the United States/North America.' The six laptops are divided into three categories — those with processors from Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm —and each category offers a 14' and 16' version. Most share a similar price range: between €899 and €999 for the 14' models and between €999 and €1,099 for the 16' models. A key difference does crop up in display, though. Perhaps to keep the price similar to Intel and AMD models, the Aspire with a Snapdragon X processor doesn't have an OLED screen — that model has IPS tech instead. All laptops are expected to go on sale in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa this summer, and this fall in Australia. Notably, the United States and other North American countries are left off the news release. "We think 10% probably will have to be the default price increase." Acer CEO Jason Chen In February, Acer CEO Jason Chen said that the company had to adjust prices to reflect the tariffs put on goods made in China. In an interview with The Telegraph, Chen said, "We think 10% probably will have to be the default price increase because of the import tax. It's very straightforward." To borrow a phrase from an earlier political era, U.S. President Donald Trump has been flip-flopping on tariff threats since he began to face pressure over them. "Don't buy the silly arguments that the U.S. consumer pays." U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick On Friday, Axios reported that Trump said the U.S. will unilaterally set tariff rates in the next few weeks. Trump has previously walked back tariff threats after the global economy went into a tailspin and stocks sank. In an interview with CNN earlier this month, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said that "We do expect a 10% baseline tariff to be in place for the foreseeable future — but don't buy the silly arguments that the U.S. consumer pays." Lutnick said then, 'The businesses and the countries primarily eat the tariff.' However, that directly contradicts what Acer CEO Chen has said. Trump's plan on a tariff rollout has been uncertain above anything else. What is certain is that new Aspire laptops don't appear to be going on sale in the US anytime soon. Dig into the specs on these impressive new laptops below — and once they go on sale in the U.S., Laptop will be sure to report the news. Credit: Laptop Mag/Rami Tabari If anyone knows anything about me, I love my big, beautiful LG OLED TV — I have two in my house, and I am considering getting a third (no, I don't have that kind of money, I just know deals). Because of that, I am super picky about my laptop displays, so when the Yoga 9i landed on my laptop, I started drooling. I recently reviewed the Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1 Aura Edition, and there's a lot to love there, but the display and audio experience completely blew me away, making this laptop a killer multimedia device. Whether you travel often, like snuggling up in bed, or simply cannot afford a chunky LG OLED TV, here's why you should consider the Yoga 9i. The Yoga 9i is the peak multimedia device Credit: Laptop Mag/Rami Tabari ...nearly double the color coverage of the Apple MacBook Air 13-inch M4. The two key features of the Yoga 9i are its display and audio. However, its battery life and design lend themselves quite well to this purpose. First things first, the Yoga 9i is rocking a 14-inch, 2880 x 1800, 120Hz OLED touchscreen display. It clocked in 421 nits of brightness and covered 210.6% of the sRGB and 149.2% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. For context, that offers nearly double the color coverage of the Apple MacBook Air 13-inch M4 . Credit: Laptop Mag/Sean Riley ...no other laptop manufacturer has replicated the Yoga's sound bar hinge. We don't have the tools to measure audio quality, but no other laptop manufacturer has replicated the Yoga's sound bar hinge. It delivers 360-degree sound with four speakers, which include two 2W tweeters (treble) and two 2W woofers (bass). It offers a loud, wide range that makes the lows, mids, and highs feel distinct. It's easily equal to or better than your average TV speaker, maybe not in volume but in quality. Of course, the Yoga 9i can't replace 65 inches of big-screen goodness, but it certainly helps that it's remarkably cheaper. You can score the Yoga 9i for just $1,499 right now at Best Buy . That'll get you the shiny 14-inch display alongside an Intel Core Ultra 7 258V processor, 32GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. Features: 14-inch 3K (2880 x 1800) 120Hz touchscreen, Intel Core Ultra 7 258V, 32GB RAM, Integrated Arc graphics, 1TB SSD, Windows 11 Deal Battery life is another critical component for this stellar streaming superstar. Technically, since it does sport the Intel Arc 140V iGPU, you can get in some light gaming as well. We ran Sid Meier's Civ VI: Gathering Storm (Medium, 1080p) at a solid 69 frames per second. You might be able to run some AAA games as well, albeit at low settings. The core advantage that the Yoga 9i has over a TV is portability. The Yoga 9i weighs only 2.9 pounds and measures 12.44 x 8.66 x 0.65 inches. You could fit this thing into most laptop bags and even some purses. And this is so easy to snuggle up in bed with. Battery life is another critical component for this stellar streaming superstar. You can't binge The Last of Us on a laptop that dies during a critical moment. Thankfully, this rig will net you 12 hours and 47 minutes of battery life. Your time will vary since we set our display brightness to 150 nits, so the dimmer your screen, the more battery life you'll eke out. Credit: Laptop Mag/Rami Tabari If you are constantly on the go, the last thing you want to worry about is your shiny new laptop breaking apart during a single drop. Well, lucky for you, the Yoga 9i sports an aluminum chassis that's been MIL-SPEC tested for drops, shocks, extreme temperatures, and more. Overall, if you're looking for a laptop to watch your favorite shows and listen to your favorite music, the Lenovo Yoga 9i 2-in-1 Aura Edition is the perfect choice.

Amid the slow death of Windows 10, Microsoft's CEO reveals a bold stat about Windows 11

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Maybe not precisely on October 14, 2025, but at some point soon, Windows 10 will become a security risk. That date is when Microsoft will stop supporting the operating system, and it will not patch any new vulnerabilities. If you're still using Windows 10 at work, your IT department will most likely not allow you to use the OS any longer. All of this will hasten the death of Windows 10, which has been slowly dying since Windows 11 debuted in October 2021. The death of Windows 10 has been slow because, as Laptop Mag has reported often over the years, Windows 10 users are raging against the dying of the light. There are myriad reasons for keeping Windows 10 instead of Windows 11, and in the words of Laptop Reviews Editor Rami Tabari, 'You'd be hard-pressed to find someone who isn't displeased with Windows 11 in some shape or form.' But with each new update, Windows 11 gets better and better, and the data shows that more people are making the switch. StatCounter, a site that tracks various data, showed that in April 2024, Windows 10 usage accounted for 70% of Windows users. A year later, it accounted for just 54% of Windows users. And this week, Microsoft revealed a statistic that demonstrates just how bold the change to Windows 11 has been in the past year. 'We continue to see increased commercial traction as we approach end of support for Windows 10. Windows 11 commercial deployments increased nearly 75% year over year,' Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said Tuesday. ("Commercial deployment" is finance-speak for "units sold and switched on," essentially.) Windows nearly 75% year over year." The comments came during Nadella's remarks to investment analysts after Microsoft released its earnings report for the third quarter of its 2025 fiscal year. While Windows is top of mind for many PC users, as a revenue earner for Microsoft, it's pretty small. In the 2024 fiscal year, Windows revenue made up just 9% of the company's $245 billion. The growth of Windows 11 has been steady since its launch in October 2021. In its 2023 annual financial report, released in July 2023, Microsoft noted that the number of devices running Windows 11 had doubled in the previous year. Features: 14-inch 3K (2880 x 1800) 120Hz touchscreen, Intel Core Ultra 7 258V, 32GB RAM, Integrated Arc graphics, 1TB SSD, Windows 11 Deal If you ask Copilot, Microsoft's generative AI app that comes included with many Windows 11-enabled laptops, why Windows 10 hangs on for so many so close to its end-of-support date, the reasons are apparent. For one, if you have an older computer, it may not run as efficiently or at all with the Windows 11 operating system. Other, more OS-focused reasons – such as quibbles about the Start menu and control over system updates – keep people on Windows 10. If you haven't upgraded or it's your first time with Windows, know that it's free to upgrade to Windows 11 if you have Windows 10. However, there's a non-monetary cost: it will require more of your RAM and memory. Your system requirements, if not up to spec, will put a choice in your hands: stick with Windows 10 and risk a security vulnerability, or buy a new laptop. Windows 11 rolls out updates to features in the second half of every calendar year and monthly security updates. Each new update includes information from all previous updates. Microsoft released the most recent security update on April 25, and, as the name suggests, the 24H2 version of Windows 11 was released in the second half of 2024, specifically in October 2024. The Windows 11 25H2 release window is rumored to be between September and October. As reported by Windows Central, Microsoft started testing 26200 series builds in March, a precursor to 25H2, with developers. As Windows 11 adoption skyrockets, Microsoft tightens its grip on new users Microsoft has forked up Windows 11, but there's one clear solution Microsoft doesn't want you to upgrade to Windows 11 No, Microsoft isn't going to charge you $1.50 to update Windows 11 I ditched Windows 11 for Linux — and you should, too Windows 11 Home vs. Pro: Which one is right for you?

'It's not just about power and performance anymore': Intel says its leveling up AI PCs for business

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Intel is trying to make debacles like the Cloudstrike outage of 2024 a thing of the past. At MWC in Barcelona, Intel announced vPro commercial editions of the "Arrow Lake" family of Intel Core Ultra chipsets, including the Core Ultra 200U, H, HX, and S suffixes, so the entire Intel Core Ultra 200 series now has vPro enterprise-ready variants. With the full slate of Core Ultra 200 series CPUs available for commercial use, Intel's enterprise portfolio will cover the gamut of powerful compute performance to high power efficiency with the embedded hardware security Intel's vPro systems are known for. 'You see serious gen-over-gen, double-digit plus/minus performance gain,' Intel's vice president of the Client Computing Group and general manager of Client Segments, David Feng tells Laptop Mag. Alongside the new hardware, Intel also announced new service updates to the vPro platform to make it easier for companies to enroll in Intel's Fleet Services for active support in case of major outages. 'It's not just about power and performance anymore, it's multiple pillars that you need to look at from a commercial perspective. It's security, manageability, systems stability, and sustainability,' Intel's General Manager of Commercial Client Segments, Jennifer Larson, tells Laptop Mag. With the new Intel Core Ultra 200U, 200H, 200HX, and 200S vPro variants, the entire Core Ultra 200 series is now commercially viable. The Core Ultra 200H and HX series offer up to 20% increases in multithread performance compared to the Intel Core Ultra 100 and Intel 14th gen CPUs. While we have yet to get our hands on an Intel Core Ultra 200HX system for testing, we were able to confirm Intel's performance claims on a few launch systems for the "Arrow Lake" 200H series. If we see similar performance from the 200HX, that would make the Core Ultra 200 series a worthwhile upgrade even for users on newer systems. But for enterprise customers who tend to work on a three to five-year upgrade cycle, the Core Ultra 200 series is a massive overhaul across raw computing power and efficiency when compared against Intel's 11th gen CPUs, offering up to 2.84x higher multicore performance in Cinebench 2024 and nearly 2x faster video editing. 'For commercial, given that four years is kind of the plus/minus refresh cycle, we compared against the 11th gen,' Feng explains. 'As you can imagine, massive, massive gain across the board for almost 3x the MT [multithreaded] performance.' But Intel's vPro systems include more than just powerful commercial hardware. Intel vPro chipsets come with hardware and software security systems designed for commercial purposes. Intel started the vPro line 19 years ago to meet the needs of IT professionals, and includes fleet deployment systems, increased security and manageability, connectivity, and device stability with a reported 99.7% app compatibility. Intel's vPro Fleet Service is an SaaS (software-as-a-service) commercial solution is being upgraded for an easier enrollment process, dropping the enrollment steps from 24 down to six, and the new Fleet Services will no longer require on-premises servers. So businesses that didn't enroll or did not meet the requirements previously can recover faster from disruptions. Intel vPro Fleet Services is in a private preview now and will be available in the coming weeks. Intel vPro will also be integrated into Microsoft Intune, coming later this year. Intel also introduced the Intel Assured Supply Chain (ASC) program, which will offer customers greater visibility and assurance in the silicon manufacturing process. So, customers with enhanced security needs can be aware of the entire chain of custody for each chip. 'We just came out with our product security report,' Larson tells Laptop. 'A third-party evaluation firm rated us number one as compared to our competitors in security assurance. We break what we build.' Intel Core Ultra 200V systems with the Intel vPro platform are currently available. Intel Core Ultra 200U, 200H, 200HX, and 200S series systems with vPro are expected to ship in late March 2025. Intel's vPro Fleet Services is in preview and will be available generally in the next few weeks, while the Intel Assured Supply Chain program will start later this year, likely in late Summer or Fall 2025. While Intel's Arrow Lake 200S desktop chips saw a number of performance issues at launch, Intel has worked to patch that experience for better, more consistent performance and efficiency gains. Arrow Lake 200H saw a successful launch last month and the first 200HX systems are expected in the coming weeks. The vPro editions of these chips will be launching around the same time frame, offering a wide range of chips to meet the needs of multiple industries and jobs. On the heels of major service outages and security failures from the competiton, the robust hardware and software security value makes Intel vPro a more attractive solution than ever. And the new vPro chips do offer on-device AI for additional security and commercial features. For gamers and general consumers, vPro isn't much of a concern, but the enterprise business is a massive market for Intel, and the company is dedicated to maintaining that lead. Intel's enterprise business helps the company build better gaming and AI chipsets and develop affordable discrete GPUs. After all of the buyout rumors and the loss of former CEO Pat Gelsinger, today's vPro news is a reminder that Intel is still a company with plenty of success to its name.
