CNN slams Trump for criticizing reporter as tensions escalate
"She lied on the Laptop from Hell Story, and now she lied on the Nuclear Sites Story, attempting to destroy our Patriot Pilots by making them look bad when, in fact, they did a GREAT job and hit 'pay dirt' -- TOTAL OBLITERATION!" Trump said in the post. The president's comments come as Bertrand and CNN reported June 25 that the U.S. strikes on three of Iran's nuclear facilities last weekend did not destroy the country's nuclear program. Instead, they reported that it simply set the country's capabilities back by months. It appears that Trump's "laptop from hell" comments were referring to Bertrand's 2020 story for Politico that suggested that the laptop controversy surrounding former President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, was a case of Russian disinformation. While unleashing against the network in his comments, Trump said Bertrand "should not be allowed to work at Fake News CNN." "It's people like her who destroyed the reputation of a once great Network. Her slant was so obviously negative, besides, she doesn't have what it takes to be an on camera correspondent, not even close. FIRE NATASHA!" Trump continued. But CNN pushed back on Trump's claims, defending Bertrand, her reporting and the network's talent roster. "We stand 100% behind Natasha Bertand's journalism and specifically her and her colleagues' reporting of the U.S. attack on Iran's nuclear facilities," the company's PR team wrote in a statement posted to X on June 25. "CNN's reporting made clear that this was an initial finding that could change with additional intelligence." 'Allison Cooper': Trump calls CNN anchor Anderson Cooper 'Allison' in rant "We have extensively covered President Trump's own deep skepticism about it," the network said. "However, we do not believe it is reasonable to criticize CNN reporters for accurately reporting the existence of the assessment and accurately characterizing its findings, which are in the public interest." Before she joined CNN in April 2021, Bertrand covered national security and politics for two years at Politico. Previously, she covered the same beat at The Atlantic and Business Insider. Kaitlan Collins, CNN star and frequent Trump adversary, will cover White House for network Donald Trump called CNN's Anderson Cooper 'Allison' As CNN has attempted to neutralize its coverage of Trump during his second term, the president himself has ramped up his attacks on the network's reporting staff in recent weeks. On June 23, Trump unleashed on CNN's star anchor Anderson Cooper. Trump lashed out on Truth Social, calling the "AC360" host "Allison Cooper" and slamming what he referred to as "fake news" organizations that "would say anything different in order to try and demean, as much as possible" in their stories about U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. In his post, Trump also slammed "Dumb Brian L. Roberts, Chairman of 'Con'cast, Jonny Karl of ABC Fake News, and always, the Losers of, again, Concast's NBC Fake News," referring to Comcast chairman Roberts and ABC News' chief Washington correspondent Jonathan Karl.

CNN Says It Stands '100% Behind' Correspondent Natasha Bertrand After Donald Trump Calls For Her Firing
After Donald Trump again attacked CNN and singled out correspondent Natasha Bertrand for her reporting on an early intel assessment of the Iran bombings, the network has responded by saying it stands '100% behind' her and her work. CNN was the first outlet to report on a Defense Intelligence Agency assessment that the U.S. bombing strikes on Iran Saturday likely set the country's nuclear program back only by months. The network made it clear in the story that it was a preliminary assessment. Other outlets, including The New York Times, the AP, Reuters and NBC News, followed up with similar reports. 'We stand 100% behind Natasha Bertrand's journalism and specifically her and her colleagues' reporting of the early intelligence assessment of the U.S. attack on Iran's nuclear facilities,' the news network said in a statement. 'CNN's reporting made clear that this was an initial finding that could change with additional intelligence. We have extensively covered President Trump's own deep skepticism about it. 'However, we do not believe it is reasonable to criticize CNN reporters for accurately reporting on the existence of the assessment and accurately characterizing its findings, which are in the public interest.' Trump press secretary Karoline Leavitt appeared to confirm the existence of the intelligence assessment in a statement she released on Tuesday, while taking issue with its findings. But Trump and his allies seem to be attacking CNN for merely reporting on the assessment, even claiming that such reports are demeaning the members of the military who carried out the strikes. Earlier on Wednesday, Trump wrote on Truth Social, 'Natasha Bertrand should be FIRED from CNN! I watched her for three days doing Fake News. She should be IMMEDIATELY reprimanded, and then thrown out 'like a dog.' The White House issued a release, titled 'CNN Spews Fake News Based on Leaked Low-Confidence Intel.' Included was a statement from the Defense Intelligence Agency saying, 'This is a preliminary, low confidence report and will continue to be refined as additional intelligence becomes available. We are working with the appropriate authorities to investigate the unauthorized disclosure of classified information.' At a press conference at the NATO summit on Wednesday, Trump called on CNN's Kaitlin Collins, telling her 'you really should say how great our soliders and our warriors are.' 'I think everyone appreciates our soldiers and our warriors,' Collins said, before asking him two questions. Trump said that they have 'collected additional intelligence. We've also spoken to people who have seen the site, and the site it obliterated. And we think everything nuclear is down there. They didn't take it out.' CNN Stands by Natasha Bertrand ‘100%' After Trump Calls on Network to Fire Her Over Iran Coverage
CNN released a statement defending journalist Natasha Betrand's report that the U.S.'s attack on Iran's nuclear facilities last week cause minimal damage to the country's nuclear program after President Trump called on the network to fire her. The report, according to CNN, came from Defense Intelligence Agency, the Pentagon's intelligence arm. The Trump administration, on the other hand, said the attack was successful and caused a 'total obliteration' of the facilities. Trump doubled down on his stance by referring to CNN's report as 'fake news' and calling on the network to fire her. — CNN Communications (@CNNPR) June 25, 2025 'Natasha Bertrand should be FIRED from CNN! Natasha Bertrand vs Donald Trump: Why POTUS says CNN journalist should be 'thrown like a dog'
President Donald Trump on Wednesday lashed out at CNN journalist Natasha Bertrand, calling for her to be fired and thrown 'like a dog'. The 78-year-old's social media post was in response to Bertrand's reporting on the US military strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities. Donald Trump lashed out at CNN journalist Natasha Bertrand on Wednesday(AP and X) 'Natasha Bertrand should be FIRED from CNN! I watched her for three days doing Fake News. She should be IMMEDIATELY reprimanded, and then thrown out 'like a dog.' She lied on the Laptop from Hell Story, and now she lied on the Nuclear Sites Story, attempting to destroy our Patriot Pilots by making them look bad when, in fact, they did a GREAT job and hit 'pay dirt' — TOTAL OBLITERATION!' Trump wrote on Truth Social. He further added that the CNN correspondent shouldn't be allowed to work. 'It's people like her who destroyed the reputation of a once great Network. Her slant was so obviously negative, besides, she doesn't have what it takes to be an on camera correspondent, not even close. FIRE NATASHA!' Neither Bertrand nor CNN has responded to President Trump's post yet. What's behind Trump's criticism of Natasha Bertrand? The controversy stems from Bertrand's exclusive story, published earlier in the day, which reported that an early US intelligence assessment suggested the strikes on Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan did not destroy Iran's nuclear program, contradicting Trump's claims of 'total obliteration'. Trump also accused Bertrand of maligning the US military and its B-2 bomber pilots. He claimed her report, citing a Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) assessment, was a politically motivated leak aimed at undermining his administration's success. Who is Natasha Bertrand? Natasha Bertrand is a journalist and national security correspondent for CNN. Born in 1992 in New York City, Bertrand graduated from Vassar College with a degree in political science and philosophy, where she developed an interest in international relations. She started as a research intern at NBC News in Madrid, Spain, in 2012, before joining Business Insider in 2014 as a reporter covering politics and international affairs. Her early work focused on US-Russia relations and cybersecurity. In 2016, she moved to The Atlantic, where she broke stories on the Trump-Russia investigation, including details of the Steele dossier in 2017. She joined Politico in 2018, covering national security and the Trump administration's foreign policy. Since joining CNN in 2021, Bertrand has served as a correspondent and contributor to The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, covering intelligence leaks, Afghanistan withdrawal, and US-Iran tensions.
