Sharjah Heritage Days witness the launch of three new publications
During the event, Dr. Adnan Mohammed Salloum signed his book "Puppet Arts", Dr. Ali Afifi Ali Ghazi signed "The Palm Trees of the United Arab Emirates in the Writings of Western Travelers", and Dr. Moataz Mohammed Othman signed "Larin: The Currency of Land and Sea". The ceremony was attended by a large gathering of guests, media representatives, and enthusiasts of local folklore and heritage. Exploring the new publications In "Puppet Arts," Dr. Adnan Mohammed Salloum explores various topics, including the historical evolution of puppet arts alongside shadow theater in the Levant, Aragoz puppetry in the Nile Valley, rain and candy puppets in the Maghreb, and Backet puppets in the Arabian Gulf. The book delves into the different stages of development of puppet arts until they reached their modern artistic forms. Meanwhile, in "The Palm Trees of the United Arab Emirates in the Writings of Western Travelers," Dr. Ali Afifi examines references to UAE palm trees in the memoirs and writings of Western travelers, highlighting their perspectives on this bountiful tree, which was unfamiliar in their home countries. The book also discusses the significance of palm trees in the Quran and classical Arabic literature, along with other related topics. In "Larin: The Currency of Land and Sea," Dr. Moataz Mohammed Othman traces the history of the Larin currency, a crucial element in numismatics and archaeology, and an important reference for those interested in the evolution of currencies throughout Arab and Islamic history. The book details how the Larin currency flourished rapidly in various kingdoms and states across the Arabian Peninsula, gaining significance due to its role as a major trade medium and the historical challenges that shaped its trajectory in the region. Further publications by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage It is worth noting that during Sharjah Heritage Days, the Sharjah Institute for Heritage also launched two other books: "The Old House" by Dr. Abdul Sattar Al-Azzawi and "Arab Folk Poetry" by Dr. Khaled Abu Al-Lail. The institute is also preparing to release and sign additional books by prominent academics and experts in history, literature, and local and Arab heritage in the coming period.
