‘Laid Off' Elmo Is Back on a New Site Soliciting PBS Donations Amid Trump's Defunding Push
Elmo is still out of work. And he's hoping people will open their wallets to help him and his friend at PBS. The creators behind the viral post about Elmo getting fired from 'Sesame Street' — purportedly pink-slipped because of President Trump's campaign to defund PBS — have brought the fan-favorite red monster back on a new fundraising site. More from Variety PBS Sues Trump, Claims Defunding Order Violates First Amendment Lesley Stahl, Scott Jennings Join PBS Tense News-Panel Series 'Breaking the Deadlock' Elmo LinkedIn Post About Being Laid Off Because of Trump Budget Cuts Is Fake, but It's Pretty Funny 'Elmo was defunded by the government and lost his job. Elmo did what people do when they need job. Elmo posted on LinkedIn,' the site, says. LinkedIn pulled down the fake Elmo account of his sad layoff news shortly after it was posted. But it still got more than 5 billion impressions organically, according to the team behind the stunt. 'Elmo was like, wow, Elmo can't even count up to 5 billion,' the new site says. 'But Elmo didn't do this just for his job, Elmo did this to save all of his friends at PBS,' the site continues. 'Because if PBS goes away, so do Curious George, Clifford, Arthur and so many more. Elmo is now on a mission to save all his friends' jobs at PBS by saving PBS.' The site includes a link to PBS's donation landing page. It's also selling merch to help raise money for PBS (Elmo's Networking Cap, $29.99; Elmo's Last Day Shirt, $39.99; and a 'Ooooooh Elmo Likes Keychains' keychain, $14.99). The Elmo Open to Work site launched as Trump has aimed to pull all federal funding from PBS and other public media orgs. On June 3, the Trump administration formally sent Congress a 'rescission' request to claw back nearly $1.1 billion in federal funds that had already been approved over the next two years for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which provides funding to local NPR and PBS stations. Congress has a 45-day window (until July 18) to either approve or ignore the proposal. Meanwhile, PBS and NPR have both sued Trump and other White House officials over his May 1 executive order instructing the CPB to cease funding them to the 'maximum extent allowed by law.' Three CPB board members have sued Trump to try to block his attempt to fire them. To be sure, PBS and 'Sesame Street' aren't completely high and dry. First, federal funding is only a small portion of their overall budgets. In addition, Sesame Workshop recently announced a new deal with Netflix, giving the streamer exclusive worldwide premiere rights to 'Sesame Street' starting with Season 56 later this year. Netflix also gained rights to 90 hours of past episodes of the show and will also be able to develop video games for both 'Sesame Street' and 'Sesame Street Mecha Builders.' The Elmo Open to Work site, like the original viral LinkedIn post, is the brainchild of Mary Adam, a senior copywriter at ad agency Leo Burnett. Adam said she's doing this without any involvement with Sesame Workshop or PBS: 'I'm just doing this on my own to help save PBS.' The new site lets visitors create profile pictures for people to show support for their favorite PBS character, and it features resumes for people to apply for jobs as PBS characters. About the original LinkedIn post, Adam said the service removed the account 'because they said Elmo is a fake character and only real humans can have a LinkedIn.' A rep for Sesame Workshop didn't immediately respond to a request for comment about Elmo Open to Work. In an earlier statement about Trump's proposed funding cuts, the organization said, 'Sesame Workshop and PBS have a shared commitment to using the power of public television to bring critical early learning to children across the country… We remain firmly in support of the vital public investment that allows PBS to continue this important work.' Adam said the site is a side project outside of work. She's being assisted by Leo Burnett colleagues Kyle Poff, George Apfelbach and Lucy Brizzolara, and Kevin McGlone of independent agency HoneyWired. The fine print on Adam's site, by the way, includes this disclaimer: ' is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with Sesame Workshop, PBS, or any of their programs or characters. Also be sure to check out the latest instalment of The Night Bazaar Drum and Bass Music Show with Promo ZO on Mixcloud. Timmy P & James Dexter - You Know Err (Origins Rcrds) One of the favourite recent releases on Origins Rcrds. Timmy P & James Dexter have been such consistent producers over the years and in my opinion should be much wider recognised than they are. Big love to both of these guys!! THEOS feat. Noa Milee (King Street) King Street is such a legendary label and to see my friend THEOS on here is really exciting. Love the soulful energy of this one. Houston (UK) - Sunburst (Origins Rcrds) This is from a brand new producer from the North West of England. I'm a big fan of these more kicked back Cafe Mambo type vibes!! Josh Butler & Chesster & Ruze - Underground Ways (Dansu Discs) I had to include this one, my latest release with Chesster & Ruze which has been getting big support this summer. I'm very proud of this whole EP! The first of many collabs to come with these guys. Prunk & Red87 - Break It Down (Hot Creations) Love what Prunks been doing for the modern House music sound and this is a great example. Massive track and the Bside of his new EP on Hot Creations. Groove Armada - House Musique (Origins Rcrds) This was released a few years back on Origins and was a huge milestone for the label. Groove Armada have been a massive inspiration to me over the years so still very proud to have release this and second EP from those guys! George Smeddles - When It Rains (Whippin) A feel good track that has been in my sets for a while now. George's productions are always on point! Ranger Trucco & Chesster - Wanna Get High (Range) Another one that has been in my Rekordbox for many months and dropped this in sets all around the world from Manchester to Melbourne. Huge tune and timeless. This will still sound great in 10 years Im sure of it. Happyhead - Digital Love Thing (Underground MK Mix) It was hard to pick with MK remix to include as there are so many bangers from back in the day. But this one is maybe less know and I will try and sneak it into some sets every now and then with the right crowds. Danny Snowden - You Give Me (Origins Rcrds) Danny has been bubbling on the scene for a few years now and feel like 2025 things are really coming together for him. We dropped this on Origins at the start of the year with another huge track on the flip side. 3 Top disc spinner and producer Josh Butler Credit: supplied

What's Left of Sayyed Safeiddine Speech after Being Elected as Sayyed Nasrallah's Successor
Here an image of what's left of the speech written by martyr Sayyed Hashem Safeiddine after being elected as successor of Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah. Below is the text of the speech: 'Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example for whoever has hope in Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah often. When the believers saw the enemy alliance, they said, 'This is what Allah and His Messenger had promised us. The promise of Allah and His Messenger has come true.' And this only increased them in faith and submission. Among the believers are men who have proven true to what they pledged to Allah.1 Some of them have fulfilled their pledge ˹with their lives˺, others are waiting ˹their turn˺. They have never changed ˹their commitment˺ in the least.' (Al-Ahzab, 21-22-23) First, I extend heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyrs and sympathy with those who have injured over their sufferings due to the Israeli aggression on our country, asking Allah to reward their patience. I address you O' dear ones in our beloved country Lebanon as well as Arab and Muslim countries. I address the free people of the world and all those who refuse oppression and fight the tyrants. There is no doubt that sadness and grief dominate our hearts over crimes and massacres committed by the Israeli enemy. Such crimes have been carried out amid US cover and international silence that reaches the extent of incitation for nearly a year against the people of Gaza, and the Palestinian people in general, all the way to Lebanon, which has been subjected to these hideous and unjust attacks. Our grief is deep, great and indescribable for the loss of our leader, our master and our inspiration, our Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. His eminence led this blessed and victorious resistance, which achieved unprecedented victories and accomplished great events that were and will remain immortal, thanks to his leadership, wisdom and courage, and above all, due to his faith, sincerity and readiness to sacrifice everything he had for the sake of the cause. This cause, he believed in and has been committed to, along with his people, his family and the families of the martyrs and the wounded.' Sayyed Safeiddine was to deliver the speech at the same day when he was martyred in an Israeli strike on Mraijeh area, in Beirut's southern suburb, Dahiyeh, on October 4, a week after the massive strikes that killed Sayyed Nasrallah. Hundreds of thousands, including figures and activists from all over the world, bid farewell to the Hezbollah secretary generals last Sunday, in a mass funeral at Beirut's Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium.
