Family mourns woman who died in AR high-speed chase, crash
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Family and friends gathered to remember the life of a woman who died in an Arkansas crash on Tuesday. Laterrika Woods, 29, was a passenger in the truck driven by Torkilo Hambrick who was charged with first-degree murder after a high-speed chase eastbound on I-40 in Arkansas, state police said. Dozens gathered at the North Frayser Community Center to honor Laterrika Woods. They lit candles and released black, silver, and red balloons in her memory. Memphis woman killed, another injured in AR crash after high-speed chase on I-40 Woods' mother, Khadijah Tucker, tells WREG, her daughter called her when it happened. 'Well, when it happened, she called me. She said, 'Mama, we on a high-speed chase,'' said Khadijah Tucker. 'And I said, 'What you talking about, baby?' That was her friend, boyfriend. She said, 'He won't stop.' And I said, 'Tell him to stop now,' and I heard him say, 'I ain't stopping. I'm not stopping.'' Arkansas State Police say Hambrick was allegedly going 120 mph in Prairie County. A state trooper then deployed a PIT maneuver that hit the truck causing it to flip and crash into a ditch. Officers say Woods was ejected and died at the scene. Driver charged with murder after AR police chase that ended in deadly crash 'Y'all didn't have no heart for them other people in that car,' said Tucker. 'They could've throwed spikes, they could've put a roadblock up for that dog, but y'all took my baby. That was my heart.' The two other passengers in the car were rushed to the hospital. One woman was released, but the other remains in critical condition. WREG has reported on the Arkansas State Police's usage of PIT maneuvers some of those incidents resulted in deaths and lawsuits. Despite some of the criticism and concern, ASP is standing by its policy. Man arrested in Cordova gas station shooting 'This tragedy is a direct result of the suspect's reckless, selfish actions. This is another example of what can happen when a suspect flees from law enforcement,' said ASP Col. Mike Hagar. 'Fleeing suspects are terrorizing and traumatizing our communities. Our Troopers will not and cannot look the other way.' 'And I want justice for my daughter. Her son, they need to be compensated for life cause y'all took his mama from him. My grandbaby eight. He'll never see her again,' said Tucker. Woods' family has a GoFundMe to raise money for her son. Click here for the link. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Driver charged with murder after AR police chase that ended in deadly crash
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis man was charged after a woman died following a deadly high-speed pursuit on Interstate 40 on Tuesday in Arkansas, state police said. Torkilo Hambrick, 30, has been charged with First-Degree Murder, Felony Fleeing, Possession of a Firearm by Certain Persons and two counts of Second-Degree Battery, Arkansas State Police said Thursday. Laterrika Woods, 29, of Memphis, died in the crash. Latarica Walker, 26, remains in critical condition. Another passenger, Zuri Jones, is stable after surgery, her mother said. Memphis woman killed, another injured in AR crash after high-speed chase on I-40 Police say Hambrick, who was driving a Dodge Ram pickup, fled 18 miles at speeds up to 120 mph after police tried to initiate a traffic stop. His vehicle crashed in a ditch in Prairie County after a state trooper executed a tactical maneuver. Jones' mother, who didn't want to be named, says her daughter didn't know Hambrick well but was friends with Laterrika Woods. They were all returning from a vacation, and her daughter said they pleaded for Hambrick to pull over. 'He wasn't listening,' said the victim's mother. 'I think my daughter said he pulled over a moment. And then the police got to the car he took off again. So you know, you know it's out of your control when you're you're not the driver, so you're not in control of it.' During the investigation, troopers found two firearms, an unknown amount of money, a bottle of promethazine, marijuana, and narcotics in the vehicle. DA will seek adult charges for juvenile in rape, murder case Police say Hambrick was found to have an outstanding extradition warrant from Shelby County, Tennessee, for probation violation. Hambrick is a registered sex offender. According to the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry, Hambrick has had charges since 2012 of domestic assault, aggravated assault, driving while license suspended revoked canceled, unlawful possession of a weapon, aggravated robbery, and possession of controlled substance. Police say that Woods' body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine the cause and manner of death. WREG has reported on Arkansas State Police PIT maneuvers and ASP aggressively going after vehicles that refuse to stop. We've also shown how sometimes those PIT maneuvers turn deadly and have led to lawsuits. ASP told us they do pull back in a lot cases and cease the pursuit. 'The idea that, you know, we're just being cowboys, and we're going to chase them until, you know, this thing concludes, that's not true,' said Col. Mike Hager with ASP in a 2024 interview. But Jones' mother thinks police should focus more on safety, especially when innocent people are involved. 'The police shouldn't be able to knock people over in the ditch,' she said. 'They shouldn't be able to do that, because it was three other peoples in the car with that guy that was trying to stop. That's just not fair. I don't see any fairness to that, and I really think that's a law that should be changed in Arkansas, that they can do that to people.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Big Boogie confirms sister Laterrika Woods died in Arkansas police chase
Memphis rapper Big Boogie, born John Lotts, is mourning the tragic loss of his sister, Laterrika Woods, who reportedly died during a high-speed police chase in Arkansas on or around March 26, 2025. The crash also left another woman, Taricaa Lashay, seriously injured—she reportedly lost an arm. While official details are still pending, widespread social media reports, including a confirmation video from Big Boogie himself, have drawn national attention. According to circulating posts on X, the incident began when a vehicle driven by an individual identified as Kizzle Consistent FlyGuy was involved in a police pursuit. Reports allege Arkansas police rammed the SUV, causing it to flip. Woods, who was a passenger, died at the scene. Lashay, another occupant, suffered life-altering injuries. As of now, the Arkansas State Police have not released a formal statement about the chase. Critics argue these aggressive tactics carry high risks, especially for passengers uninvolved in criminal activity. Woods' death has reignited debate around Arkansas' pursuit policies. Earlier this month, the Arkansas Advocate reported that police conducted 553 car chases in 2024, resulting in six fatalities. State officials had pledged a tougher stance on suspects fleeing law enforcement, but the latest incident is prompting renewed scrutiny. Woods, remembered as a mother, has been mourned widely online, with many questioning the necessity and proportionality of the chase. The hip-hop community has rallied around Big Boogie, who is signed to Yo Gotti's Collective Music Group. Fans and followers have flooded social media with tributes, demanding accountability and transparency.
