Restaurant roundup: Laune Bread wants your rhubarb
A St. Paul staple is back with a Southern twist.
Driving the news: Golden Thyme, which has evolved during its 25-year run from a coffee shop to an incubator for Black-owned food businesses, is opening a New Orleans-style restaurant and bar in the original Selby Avenue location in Rondo.
The grand opening is Tuesday, per a release.
Plus: For those looking for the original coffee shop vibe, Golden Thyme Cafe just opened its doors a block away, serving coffee, soups and sandwiches.
Got rhubarb? Laune Bread in South Minneapolis just restarted its veggie-for-pastry program, where folks can bring in clean stalks of rhubarb in exchange for baked goods, Longfellow Whatever writes.
Gardeners get $3 in store credit per pound, and the offer stands until Laune "feels they have a year's worth." (Last year's haul was over 1,000 pounds.)
Last call for the state's first and only gluten-free brewery. Burning Brothers Brewing in Hamline-Midway will discontinue all operations and hold its last service May 10, it announced on social media.
Parlour owner Jester Concepts are opening two new restaurants in downtown Excelsior this summer. Mirabelle will serve more casual American fare, while Shiki will focus on ramen and dumplings, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune.
