SIMON Cowell made an emotional confession as he opened up about the loss of his parents. The Britain's Got Talent judge opened up about the realities of fatherhood to son Eric, 11. 9 9 9 Simon, 65, mourned the loss of both his parents as he became more successful in showbiz. His father Eric Philip Cowell passed away at the age of 81, before his mother Julie later died in July 2015 aged 90. It was only the year before that he welcomed his son Eric in February 2014 with his partner, Lauren Silverman. This was before the famous couple officially announced their engagement in 2022. Now, Simon made a heartbreaking admission as he claimed his son 'saved him' after he became "lost" following the death of both his parents. He told PEOPLE: "[Fatherhood has] had a huge impact on me because I loved my parents so much, and once they left, I was kind of lost for a while, and then Eric kind of saved me. "Because that love comes back a hundred times more powerful. I mean, it's extraordinary and it never goes. "So I didn't expect that, and when it happened, it was like, 'Wow.' I mean, it's incredible." The former music mogul and X Factor judge also admitted that his role as a father made his TV jobs 'easier'. This was because he says that he thought about his son more whilst conducting his judging roles on-screen. He also admitted his priorities in life changed once he became a father, because he became less career-focused. He said as he broke down: 'Before him I had reached the point where nothing mattered. It all hit me so hard. Being on TV I felt like a clown because I was dying inside. I put on loads of weight. 'If I was going to be hit by a bus the next day - I wasn't worried about anything like that. The whole time was dark. It was the lowest level. I can relate when people say that being alive doesn't matter anymore. 'I thought "what have I got to live for?" I didn't want to take my own life but I thought "if something terrible happens to me it wouldn't bother me". I do still suffer with depression sometimes.' He spoke about descending into a deep depression in the midst of his grief and realised that 'material things meant nothing'. Simon also became a workaholic to deal with his pain, explaining: 'After losing them all the material things I had meant nothing. 'I was on a downward spiral. I was desperately unhappy so I thought I would just become a vampire and I would work till 7am. 'I got addicted to that lifestyle. I had to find something to fill the loss and I became a workaholic. I was very successful but so unhappy. ' On finding out Lauren was pregnant he added: 'I got the call from Lauren and she said "are you sitting down?" That's how you know it's something big! 'And it changed everything. It made me happy again, it was perfect.'

Lauren, who has been engaged to the TV star since 2021, told Closer: 'We switch off properly. We also watch movies, do yoga and clay pigeon shooting. We walk the dogs together. We cook'. Despite David and Victoria Beckham also boasting a huge Cotswolds home nearby, the two famous families do not seem to cross paths often. Laura explained: They're busy people. However while visiting the Chelsea Flower Show with pal and Britain's Got Talent judge Bruno Tonioli, 69, she said he was a regular visitor to the family home and is known as 'Uncle Bruno' to son Eric. While the dancer told the publication: 'There's a little group who get together. It's good to keep what you do in your private life separate. Nobody knows what's going on and I like it that way'. Simon and his family moved to the country following a spate of break-ins at their now-sold £45million former home in Holland Park, west London. And in January MailOnline exclusively he was bidding to extend his the home with a massive new 'party barn' for entertaining his A-list friends and family. The new extension is described as 'minor in scale' by Cowell's building agents though it covers 793sq ft, roughly the size of an average new build house in the UK. Their stunning new eight-acre country estate is perched grandly on a hilltop overlooking a picture-perfect village frequented by celebrities and royals alike. The grounds already feature a wild swimming pond and an indoor pool, but the new plans suggest he is keen to have a new large dedicated socialising space. It would also double as a games room for the couple's boys Eric and 18-year-old Adam who is Lauren's child from a previous relationship, and for them to have friends over too Despite having spent £500,000 on security to safeguard his London home, Simon was subject to repeat intrusions while living in Holland Park. In 2023, it was alleged that a criminal gang had even sold the exact lock to his front door. Back in 2015, thieves broke into the property in the early hours of the morning and stole jewellery worth up to £1million and two passports from an open safe. Simon and Lauren were asleep in their beds as was their son Eric, who was a baby at the time. X Factor star later said of the incident: 'One hundred per cent I'd like to meet the guy. 'If we found him I'd want to have a conversation with him. I don't want to say too much right now because I am angry. 'As a dad you have to realise the psychological damage it does having someone you don't know in your home 3ft away from your little boy.' he also said he was disappointed that his three dogs did not raise any alarms when the invasion happened, adding: 'They didn't make a sound. They're usually always barking but they chose not to at that time. Now I have dogs that bark.' Simon also experienced a scary encounter at his Holland Park residence in 2012, when a woman wielding a brick broke into the property while the TV personality was at home watching television.

SIMON Cowell stunned fans after sharing a rarely-seen snap of his son to Instagram yesterday. TV star Simon, 65, proudly embraced 11-year-old Eric as they enjoyed an afternoon stroll with German Shepherd, Pebbles, in the sun. 5 The father-son-duo wore matching navy T-shirts, with Simon opting for trousers in a darker shade and sunglasses - while Eric kept cool with shorts. In his caption, the music mogul wrote: "1. Love. 2. Even more love. 3. It was a long walk." Eric was born February 14, 2014 and is Simon's only child with his fiancee Lauren Silverman, 47. Shortly after he was born, The Sun revealed that his godmother is singer Sinitta, who was previously in a relationship with The X Factor creator. Simon previously divulged his plans for Eric to one day take over his business – including becoming a Britain's Got Talent judge. In a 2018 interview, he said he'd been secretly mentoring Eric since he started walking, believing he'll be the only candidate to take over the reins. He told us: 'I look at things through his eyes now. 'I want to spend more time with him. I'm lucky because he likes the shows, so he comes down to them with me. I'm sort of training him up." And, the previous year, he melted hearts, this time on The X Factor. when he helped out his superstar dad. Eric also completely stole the show on Britain's Got Talent by making a surprise appearance on the panel. Simon's adorable son was excited about sitting in his seat at the panel and told Amanda Holden that he would be a really good judge. When asked what Simon's job was Eric cutely said: "I am daddy's job now." He also managed to upstage Simon during an interview on Loose Women. The tot was seen gate-crashing the interview when he jumped on to his dad's lap before trying to clip a peg on to his nose. As Simon cried out in pain, Robbie Williams ' wife Ayda Field, who was doing the interview, asked the youngster who the best judge on BGT was. Eric said it was his dad Simon, to which the mogul replied: "He has to say that!" Just recently, Simon revealed Eric's secret musical talent. The former Syco boss said: "He's decided that he's going to audition for Britain's Got Talent. That is going to be total torture. Simon Cowell has taken a brutal swipe at some of the world's richest billionaires, branding them snobby and obnoxious. The music mogul, 65, has amassed his own vast fortune thanks to his string of TV shows, but in a new interview has insisted he has nowhere near the £500 million he is estimated to be worth. Speaking on the How To Fail podcast, Simon shared that he doesn't feel money is the biggest drive for him, and he's happy with the amount he has, with his fiancée Lauren Silverman and their son Eric at his side. He said: 'I've definitely got enough. I don't need any more. 'I don't yearn for what I thought I wanted a few years ago because when I was a kid I had no idea of anything like yachts and the Caribbean or private planes. 'So when the first time — I guess in my early forties, it must have been — I came across this world and saw it and I'm like, 'What? That is your own boat?' It was like a cruise ship. 'So there was a point where maybe I felt I haven't done as well [as I thought], maybe that's what I want. 'And I did start to mix with some of those people for a couple of years. And I'm going to be honest with you, I hated it. I didn't like the people.' 'I thought they were obnoxious, I thought they were snobby. 'I think a lot of those people thought they were better than other people because they had money, which is ridiculous when you think about it.' While Simon did not specifically name any of the billionaires he was referring to, he has previously pictured with Top Shop owner Sir Phillip Green. He went onto reveal that he has previously had a conversation with his partner Lauren about his own wealth. The Britain's Got Talent star said: 'I remember saying to Lauren, ''Do we actually know anyone who's rich - I mean super-rich - and happy?''. 'She went, ''no'', and I went, ''nor me''. We don't need any more,' before shutting down claims that his fortune is worth £500 million. He added: 'I'm not even close to that. I've made a bit of money, yes, but not that much, no.' The father of one recalled how during the early days of the Covid pandemic he pushed out all of his projects early over fears that they would be halted. He said: 'I always worry about money because I think you have to in a way. You think about Covid as an example. 'I remember reading it for the first time on a website, and I don't read a lot of stuff on social media, but I'd heard about it, so I was curious. 'Second day, the story got bigger to a point where I actually phoned my partner and I said "I don't like the look of this, I have a horrible feeling it's going to be like that movie Contagion, and I think we need to get all of our shows into production around the world quicker this year". And we did. 'And when it happened it was obviously worse than I could have imagined, 'When you think about that, the wars, and everything else, the instability, what is safe? Is it gold, cash, stocks. I don't think anything's safe any longer. I guess your house. 'Someone did actually say to me once "live in your money". And it was really good advice, i.e, enjoy it, and be happy with it, but understand that the world is precarious.' Simon downsized his company SyCo to 'focus on family' and says he no longer feels the need to make as much money, claiming that nobody he knows who is 'super rich' is happy. While his ITV talent show is still a raging success attracting around five million viewers each episode, Simon has wound down some of his other projects. The X Factor ran for 14 years, from 2004 to 2018, but Simon decided to call it quits on the long-running show due to declining viewing figures and a belief that online platforms like YouTube were taking over the need for talent shows. The musical mogul had excitedly announced a bid to find the next big boyband - claiming there hadn't been one as big as 1D since - and launched a Netflix series, The Midas Touch. But Simon's latest project was scrapped, seemingly due to lack of interest when he failed to get enough talent auditioning to become 'the next One Direction'. Simon's slow wind down has come in recent years as he bids to focus more on his partner Lauren Silverman, with whom he shares son Eric, 11. The TV personality also stepped away from the limelight in August 2020 when he broke his back during an E-bike accident while testing it at his Malibu home. He underwent six hours of surgery and claimed at a later date that it was 'much worse than people first thought'.
