Riesel softball falls just short of schools first State Championship
AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 44) — Riesel finished its historic season by falling just short of its first State Championship, losing 5-4 to Ganado.
The Indians jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Kyleigh Benton drove in two runs with a single in the first inning. Riesel continued to roll extend the lead to three after Lauren Summers drove in Landri Pick with an RBI double.
Benton pitched a shutout for the first four innings but Ganado eventually plated two runs of its own in the fifth inning, cutting the deficit to one.
Riesel responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning with Mollee Summers coming across to score thanks to a Pick single.
Ganado rallied in the final three innings, scoring in each and plating two runs in the seventh inning to take a 5-4 lead into the bottom half of the seventh.
The Indians did not go down without a fight. The Indians put runners on second and third with just one out but Saylor Bures buckled down and recorded a strike out and a fly out to right field to end the game.
While the season did not end the way anyone had hoped, Riesel still had its most successful season in school history.
