Beautiful sun-soaked country with 87p beers and 22C heat in May
Serbia offers stunningly cheap prices and incredible sunshine in May that many Brits could consider for a holiday getaway instead of more typical options such as those in the Mediterranean A beautiful country offers beers from as little as 86p and glorious 22C in May if travellers fancy swapping a typical Mediterranean holiday for an underrated gem. Temperatures will be soaring across Europe next month with the mercury regularly tipping past the 20C mark. But with the average cost of a pint in the UK currently sitting at about £4.70, according to the Office for National Statistics, people are searching for other destinations where their hard earned wages can stretch further. Travel website World Wide Wilbur has suggested the Balkan country of Serbia as a destination for those who fancy a cheaper pint. The website said the nation offers a fantastic selection of beers that will please most Brits looking for a wildcard choice for a holiday break in May. "Serbia has some outstanding nightlife and delicious beer," the website said. "Belgrade is most famous for its Splavovi, riverside barge nightclubs that blast music till sunrise. "You won't find cheap beer in the Splavs, but on a side street in charming Zemun, you can find a draft Lav for only 120 Dinars (87p). I recommend upgrading to a Niksicko Tamno dark beer. Belgrade is a big, wild city, and I started off my visit by joining the Belgrade Pub Crawl." But it's not just cheaper pints that will have you considering Serbia for a holiday destination with a lovely spell of weather expected in May, according to AccuWeather. Temperatures can hit highs of 27C on May 2 with a more steady 26C being forecast from the middle of the month ahead. Serbia also offers a host of activities and attractions to travellers, with Belgrade being known for its historic fortresses and museums packed with artefacts and culture from the Balkan country. The history of Serbia is long and complex and make for a perfect detour for people wanting to learn more about the region in between pit stops at the city's pubs and bars. For those wanting to get stuck into the Belgrade nightlife, there are several options that can give you a great tour of the cities bars. The Belgrade Chuggalong on website Get Your Guide offers an experience to "the ultimate taste of Belgrade's vibrant nightlife." Reservations for the pub crawl currently stand at £25.63 per person with free shots and exclusive drink deals being offered "at every bar you visit." Those wanting to jet off to Belgrade next month have a couple of direct options in the UK that they can choose to set off from, including: London Luton Airport London Heathrow Airport Both Air Serbia and Wizz Air offer direct flights with many more options being available for those who do not mind a stopover at another airport.
