Morocco Names Members of New Film Production Support Committee
Rabat – Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, the Moroccan Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, chaired the appointment of the new members of the Film Production Support Committee on Friday.
The main goal of the committee is to improve the quality of domestic productions and increase the international visibility of Moroccan cinema.
This will help promote Moroccan culture, identity, and heritage at international events, as well as open up new markets for Moroccan films, particularly in Asia and countries with significant Moroccan communities, said the ministry of culture in a press release.
The event was attended by Abdelaziz El Boujdaini, Secretary-General of the Communication Sector and Acting Director of the Moroccan Cinematographic Center.
During the meeting, Bensaid recalled his ministry's efforts to collaborate with the Moroccan Cinematographic Center to promote and develop the country's film industry.
He explained that the goal is to strengthen the film industry to meet Morocco's goals by putting into action the rules of Law No. 18.23 on the film industry and reorganizing the Moroccan Cinematographic Center, which will start in October 2025.
The minister noted the need for a new vision that encourages national investment and opens up opportunities for foreign expertise in the field, both in professional practice and in fostering joint national and international productions.
He stated it's important to create a positive environment for both Moroccan and foreign technicians, saying it would help build a sustainable economic model, create job opportunities, and contribute to Morocco's economic and social development.
The Film Production Support Committee consists of 11 members, including Amine Nassour as a President, and two representatives from the ministry of culture, one in the communication Sector and the other in the culture sector.
Other members include Bissan Khayrat, Karim Douichi, Bouchra Mazia, Mohamed Saoudi, Fouad Challa, Wijdane Khalid, and Sidi Mohamed El Idrissi.
