DAVV to launch integrated teacher education courses
Indore:
Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya
(DAVV) is set to introduce three new four-year integrated teacher education programmes under its School of Education from the academic session 2026-27. The proposal for these courses—BSc-BEd,
BCom-BEd
, and BA-BEd—was approved by the university's Executive Council.
The department will now submit a formal application to the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) in June for approval.
According to Dr Laxman Shinde, head of the School of Education, DAVV, the integrated programmes will offer a comprehensive blend of subject knowledge and pedagogical training. These courses are aimed at students who completed Class 12 and are interested in pursuing a career in teaching. Each course will have an intake of 50 students, and admissions will be conducted through a non-CUET route.
In alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, these four-year programmes are being designed to create well-trained, practice-ready educators. The department developed the course structures between January and February this year.
The NCTE is expected to evaluate the submitted proposal and conduct an inspection between July and August. The inspection will assess 15 key parameters, including the availability of qualified faculty, infrastructure, library, classrooms, computer labs, and other academic facilities.

Based on the inspection, formal recognition is anticipated by December.
Once the recognition is granted, a university-level committee will convene to determine the semester-wise fee structure for each course. Dr Shinde added that this is the first time the university is launching integrated programmes in the Faculty of Education and sees it as a major step toward strengthening teacher training.
