High school boys lacrosse: Christian Brothers Academy takes over in second half, denies Watertown sectional title
Jun. 5—CICERO — The Watertown boys lacrosse team stood one half away from winning an elusive sectional title. The Cyclones built a lead through the first half and seemed poised to accomplish their goal, only to be turned away. Advertisement Top-seeded Christian Brothers Academy rallied after halftime to down second-seeded Watertown for a 9-6 triumph in the Section 3 Class B title game Monday on a hot and muggy evening at Cicero-North Syracuse High School. "We fought hard," Cyclones goalie Norman Cushman said. "The defense played really well and it was kind of tough for us on offense, but everybody worked hard." Nico Spaziani generated four goals to lead Watertown (14-4), which competed in a sectional final for the second straight season. "I don't know, I think we all left our hearts out there," Watertown senior Owen O'Donnell said. "It's tough, we had a good first half, but we didn't win, we just couldn't get it done." Advertisement The Cyclones got off to a strong start, backed by another stalwart defensive effort, on the way to building a 5-3 advantage through the first half. Spaziani scored three of his goals in the first half to spark Watertown early on. "We played a great first half," Watertown coach Brian Navarra said. "We wore them down a little bit in the first half, we were going back and forth, the defense was good, Norman was making saves and clearing the ball, Nico really stepped up in that first half." That's when CBA took over, dominating in the possession game and holding Watertown to only one goal after halftime. Advertisement The Brothers scored the next five goals, including generating four tallies in the third quarter. After Vin Lazzaro scored in the first minute of the third quarter and Ben Anderson followed with the tying goal from long range 4:23 into the period. Lazzaro struck again by generating the go-ahead goal, again an unassisted effort, with 52.9 seconds left in the quarter. With CBA leading 6-5 heading into the fourth quarter, Lazzaro scored 1:16 into the fourth and Liam Harty followed with a goal with 9:39 remaining in regulation to boost the lead to three goals. Watertown answered on a goal from Spaziani with 7:30 remaining in regulation to pull his team within 8-6. Advertisement But CBA won the ensuing faceoff and Lazzaro added a goal with 1:20 left for the final margin. "We couldn't really get going offensively," Navarra said of the second half. "Jack Adams is hurt, he can't really run, he was giving his all. But he initiates a lot of our offense, at least to draw slides and distribute to other guys, so that kind of hurt a little bit. "But I don't know, we played so much defense and when we got on offense we kind of rushed a little too much and that caught up with us." The Brothers set the tone for much of the night, winning 14 of 19 faceoffs, including seven in the second half. Advertisement "It was huge," CBA coach Jeremy Boltus said of the second half. "We were a little bit bummed, we talked about it, we got opportunities in the first half, we just didn't take advantage of it. But like all year, our defense kind of put us on their shoulders a little bit. "Drew Britton was phenomenal in net, they started executing the game plan a little bit more, stopping Nico, who is just an incredible player. And I told them once we get warm, the avalanche is probably going to come and thankfully we did and we're just really thankful for it." With CBA controlling the ball, Watertown went scoreless for nearly 23 minutes of the game. "So we were happy with where we were at in the first half, we only gave up three goals and we were fine, in good shape," Navarra said. "We knew we needed more from our offense and then, I don't know, everything kind of died in the second half, quite honestly. Advertisement "We burnt right out, we stopped doing the little things right, that's going to cost you in a game like this. Stopped getting ground balls, giving the top side to certain offensive guys, little mistakes killed us." The Cyclones got off to an encouraging start, with Kage Loftus, Spaziani each scoring a goal in the first quarter to build a 3-1 advantage. Spaziani supplied two goals in the second quarter, including a tally with 4:46 left to stake the Cyclones to the 5-3 advantage. Cushman made 20 saves, with of them coming in the first half, as Watertown contained CBA offensively for much of the opening 24 minutes. Advertisement Lazzaro finished with four goals, and Jack Wichmann contributed a pair of goals to spark CBA (15-3). "It feels great, I give all the credit to the players, Boltus said. "They've stayed the course throughout the three years from when I took over to this point." Watertown played in the final after reaching a sectional title game for the first time last year. "Next year we've got to come back stronger," Cushman, a sophomore, added. "We played well, just not quite enough." Navarra is proud of what the team, led by its senior class, has accomplished, not just season, but for what the program as a whole has achieved. "It's tough, this one is going to sting for a while." Navarra said. "It's just such an awesome group of seniors with 12 guys that are going to be sorely missed. This senior group, not only were the game changers and season changers, they were program changers, they changed the scope of the program and they'll be sorely missed."

Convicted sex trafficker sues former attorney for mishandling $2.1M in gold
The Brief Convicted sex trafficker Anton Lazzaro claims his former attorney either stole or lost $1.6 million in gold. The attorney, Hillary Parsons, recorded three videos when she picked up the gold at an FBI office in 2021. The law firm that is also named in the suit called Lazzaro's claims "unsubstantiated." (FOX 9) - A convicted child sex trafficker sent to prison for decades for paying teenage girls to have sex with him is suing his former attorney, claiming she either stole or lost more than half of his $2.1 million gold fortune. What the lawsuit says Anton Lazzaro on Wednesday filed a lawsuit in Hennepin County District Court against his former attorney, accusing her of mishandling his gold fortune. In the lawsuit, Lazzaro claims Hillary Parsons, who represented him in his federal sex trafficking case, ignored his instructions for picking up his gold from the FBI office in Brooklyn Center in September 2021. The FBI seized the gold when it raided his downtown Minneapolis condo in December 2020. Lazzaro claims that Parsons retrieved the gold in her personal vehicle, not an armored truck, as instructed. He also said she failed to put the gold in a safety deposit box at a bank and instead gave it to Lazzaro's employee, who later realized that more than half of it was missing. The backstory Lazzaro, 34, was convicted in March 2023 on multiple counts of sex trafficking. Prosecutors said he conspired with another woman to recruit teenage girls – all underage – to have sex with him. They said he sent vehicles to pick them up and bring them to his downtown condo, where he supplied them with alcohol, cell phones and emergency contraceptives. The scheme happened between May and December 2020, prosecutors said. What the videos show In the lawsuit, Lazzaro submitted as evidence three videos that Parsons recorded to prove that she picked up and transported the gold. In the videos, Parsons is heard singing while repeatedly mentioning that she has not touched the gold. Lazzaro called the videos "erratic" and "bizarre." The final video ends with Parsons asking Lazzaro's associate Yele Yang to sign for the pricey cargo. The transfer of the gold is not depicted in any of the videos. What the attorney says "As I leave, not touching any metals, following the kind of cute FBI guy," said Parsons as she left the FBI facility in Brooklyn Center. "Singing an obnoxious song as I go. Note that I haven't touched anything." What the law firm says In a statement on Tuesday, Tamburino Law Group, a Minneapolis-based firm, denied wrongdoing, calling Lazzaro's claims "unsubstantiated." The statement read: "Mr. Lazzaro has made unsubstantiated claims in this complaint he personally filed from prison this afternoon. "The facts are that the entire team of retained legal counsel involved in this case from multiple law firms acted with full client authority. Ms. Parsons followed the specific documented directions from the client when transferring property from FBI custody back to the client's designated representative. This property transfer happened over the course of a few minutes and in the presence of the FBI. "The Minnesota Board of Professional Responsibility has reviewed Mr. Lazzaro's complaint and found no ethical violations." What's next Lazzaro has requested a jury trial. He also said he looks forward to proving his innocence in the child sex trafficking case for which he is serving a 21-year prison sentence.

Two accused of unlicensed cosmetic surgeries at the same Miami surgery center
Two Doral men who promoted themselves as doctors in Little Havana each practiced without a Florida medical license, police say. Manuel Lazzaro and Wilson Muñoz Suarez faked doctor status on Instagram, Facebook and even, in Lazzaro's case, with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Police say Lazzaro, 58, and Muñoz, 60, also faked it by performing at least one unlicensed plastic surgery at Miami's New World Medical & Mystic Cosmetic Surgery, 2020 SW First St. Under Mystic Cosmetic Center, Inc., New World has held an office surgery registration license since June 8, 2022. State records say Mystic is run by President Maria Gonzalez, vice president Yaritzza Gonzalez and Secretary Domingo Astacio. Maria Gonzalez and Yaritzza Gonzalez and Jadhiel Reyes are the authorized persons of the LLC that county records show as the owner of the building. New World's license still bears the building's address, although workers at the building on Thursday said renovations had been going on for months. Maria Gonzalez directed all questions to attorney Luis Fernandez, who answered questions about Lazzaro and Muñoz with a text message: 'This is an ongoing investigation, and we cannot comment at the present time.' None of the surgery center owners are in legal trouble. The faux Florida doctors, on the other hand, each listed on the arrest form as 'surgical assistants,' face criminal charges. Lazzaro pleaded not guilty to one count of unlicensed practice of a healthcare profession with injury and was released from Miami-Dade Corrections custody after posting $10,000. Muñoz posted $13,000 bond after being charged with one count of practicing medicine without a license, as well as one count of domestic violence battery, battery against an elderly victim and two counts of resisting an officer without violence The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office said when deputies arrived at his home to make the arrest, he 'grabbed his mother by her neck in a chokehold position, attempting to use her as a shield.'. He'll enter a plea at Friday's court appearance. READ MORE: Here's how to check out your Brazilian butt lift or plastic surgery doctor in Florida Lazzaro, social media, surgeon society Lazzaro's Facebook page claims he's a 1983 graduate of the Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola in Caracas, Venezuela, and got his medical degree in 1992 from the Universidad Central de Venezuela. Under work, Lazzaro listed post graduate work as a general surgeon then a plastic surgeon with a specialty in facial reconstruction at Caracas' Hospital Domingo Luciani in Caracas from 1994-2000. Also, he listed plastic surgeon work at two other Caracas hospitals from 2002 through 2017. The page's Live Events lists 'Moved to Doral, Florida' in 2017. While the Florida Department of Health's license verification page says Lazzaro never bothered to get licensed in Florida — just enter the name to find past and present licenses — he did somehow become listed on the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) website. ASPS is not to be confused with the American Board of Plastic Surgery. 'Please note that membership in ASPS requires, at the time of application, that the individual be highly trained in plastic surgery, have an unrestricted license to practice medicine or appropriate authorization to practice and be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada,' ASPS says, 'or meet the certification requirements of their respective countries for those members residing outside of the United States or Canada.' But Lazzaro's ASPS entry says he's a a Doral resident, so he should have to have had a medical license to be a member. His profile page remained up as of Sunday. ASPS also claims no verification responsibility, stating it 'does not undertake to independently verify the information provided by its members that appears in these profiles or current licensure/certification status.' According to an arrest report, an Orlando area woman saw his Instagram page and 'believed [Lazzaro] to be a certified cosmetic surgeon, as advertised on social media.' The arrest report says she and Lazzaro agreed on a breast surgery. The woman drove down for a Sept. 27 surgery. After some time in a recovery house, she returned to the Orlando area. She started to suffer complications and spoke with Lazzaro, the arrest report said, as well as returned to New World 'several times.' 'As a result of the cosmetic surgery by [Lazzaro], the victim suffered permanent disfigurement,' the arrest report said. WPLG Channel 10 reported Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office prosecutor Nessa Eth said in bond court, the woman 'suffered the loss of her entire nipple' because 'her breasts were infected and (he) ignored her complaints and didn't tell her to go to a legitimate doctor.' She identified Lazzarro by photograph to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office on April 8. He was arrested on April 10. MORE: A Nevada mother came to Miami for plastic surgery. She died in the recovery house Wilson Muñoz medical license case Similar to Lazzaro, Muñoz worked in Colombia out of at least two of his own surgery centers, in Cúcuta and San Cristobal. Though Muñoz shut down his Instagram accounts and includes bare bones facts on his Facebook page, Instagram posts from others show he ran at least one of the Colombia clinics into 2023. Also, similar to Lazzaro, the online commercial that is a professional social media account got the attention of an Orlando area woman. An arrest report says she spoke to Muñoz, scheduled a consultation and paid a $100 deposit. When they met at an office space about a mile west of the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, Muñoz 'presented himself as a licensed cosmetic surgeon and physically examined the victim alone.' Muñoz did the surgery at New World on Oct. 12. Two months later, the arrest report said, 'after several failed attempt to make contact with (him) about her surgical procedure, the victim discovered that the defendant was not a licensed doctor.' She came back down to Doral and met with Muñoz again — and video-recorded the meeting. 'Upon confronting (him), she began to explain her concerns about her results,' the arrest report said. Sheriff's detectives later saw Muñoz's since-closed Instagram page and identified him from the photo. He was arrested on March 26.
